Madison Monthly Meeting (Quakers): Community Resident Job Position
Effective Date: To start between September 15, 2023 and October 1, 2023 for at least a one-year commitment.
Status: Part-time
Reports to: This position reports to the Clerks’ Team, which functions as a leadership group for Madison Monthly Meeting. The Clerk will annually appoint a member of the Clerks’ Team to be the supervisor. This position will regularly and frequently communicate with the supervisor.
Summary: The person(s) in this position must rent the house at 602 Stockton Court, which is adjacent to the Meetinghouse located at 1704 Roberts Court, Madison, WI. Residents must live there full time. This position provides an on-site Quaker presence and is integral to the life of the Meeting and the care of Madison Monthly Meeting (MMM) property. Specific work tasks will be listed in a memorandum of understanding and there will also be a rental agreement.
Major Responsibilities are listed below. Optionally, there are administrative and cleaning tasks that could be part of the position as negotiated.
Prep Building for use by Quakers and others:
● Set heating and cooling based on the weekly schedule.
● In coordination with the meeting use scheduler, ensure that: (1) users have building access;
(2) parking lot, sidewalks and the entryway are safe; (3) the meeting space is ready for use;
(4) any communication regarding the space or required cleaning has been communicated and supplies are readily available.
● Regularly communicate with relevant committees regarding the buildings and grounds.
Building and Grounds Maintenance and Security:
● Be part of the team responding to emergency and non-emergency building and grounds issues. This position will be the first point of contact for people with a concern.
● Daily Meetinghouse walk-through to ensure doors are locked, lights are off, and there are no obvious maintenance or security issues.
● Regularly review the parking lot and grounds for safety issues; monitor parking stalls for authorized renters.
● Mow the grass and rake leaves as needed. Remove snow that is not covered by contracted services (parking lot snow-plowing is a contracted service.). Sand and salt walkways as needed.
Neighborhood Relations:
● Represent MMM to the immediate neighborhood and maintain good relationships with neighbors. Keep the Clerks’ Team informed of any neighborhood issues and concerns.
● Attend neighborhood association meetings, gatherings, and other meetings about neighborhood concerns as appropriate.
Skills and Knowledge
This position requires strong written and verbal communication skills, conflict resolution skills, adaptability to change, and an understanding of and appreciation for Quaker testimonies.
Experience in building and grounds maintenance, working with volunteers, and Quaker process preferred.
Physical Demands
Ability to shovel snow and rake leaves. Ability to be on a ladder if necessary. Ability to lift 40 lbs.
Background Check
A background check will be required.
Compensation and Benefits
Rent reduction will be given in relation to the agreed upon tasks and the estimated time required to perform them. The calculation of rent reduction is based on a nominal hourly pay in the range $20 to $25/hour. Workers compensation is provided.
