GRADE: GRADE 2 (starting pay $22.84/hr.)

LOCATION: BRECKSVILLE (HYBRID)
About the Role: The purpose of this position is to collect unfulfilled municipal income tax obligations from taxpayers. A Collector is responsible for establishing payment plans, reaching an agreement with the taxpayer to resolve the balance, and bringing account to current status. Extensive telephone contact with taxpayers and accountants. Ideal candidates will possess good math aptitude, analytical ability and excellent communication skills.
About RITA: The Regional Income Tax Agency (“RITA”) is an OPERS employer that offers low monthly premiums for health benefits for employees, spouses and dependents with no monthly cost for dental and vision coverage. Additional benefits include paid vacation and paid sick leave. An additional 3 days of personal time are available each year on employee’s anniversary of date of hire.
Work Environment: You will be assigned to work primarily out of RITA’s Brecksville office, with the opportunity to work a blended schedule, meaning some days in the office, some days working from home. Our dress when in the office is professionally casual – jeans are welcome. We thrive on collaborative work, and we are best as a team with each person doing their part.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Initiates correspondence with taxpayers via telephone calls and mail to establish payment plans to resolve unfulfilled municipal income tax obligations.
2. Negotiates and implements payment schedules with taxpayers to resolve past due balances by providing detailed account explanations and account history including information regarding local income tax code. Resolves disputes as necessary.
3. Researches address and telephone number of delinquent accounts from various databases and resources to locate taxpayers.
4. Prepares and/or amends income tax returns as necessary. Verifies address, telephone number and wages from tax returns.
5. Processes incoming payments made by credit card and/or check.
6. Monitors account status and payments received.
7. Reviews new account distributions and prepares accounts for collections process.
8. Advises Collection Manager of delinquent accounts that remain uncollected. Prepares account records and refers for legal action.
9. Utilizes a variety of standard office equipment, computer programs and computer systems in the completion of essential functions including but not limited to telephone, facsimile, photocopier, calculator, and personal computer with word processing, spreadsheet and/or database software, electronic mail system, and RITA tax system.
10. Performs related work as directed.

Physical Requirements: The individual assigned to this position must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job, with or without a reasonable accommodation, which include, but are not limited to the following:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.
- Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
- Frequently communicates with tax payers, members, etc. who have inquiries about their accounts. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
About You: Associate’s degree with course work emphasis in business; supplemented by a minimum of two (2) years previous experience and/or training that includes account collections, telephone customer service; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
