Inspects, enforces and ensures compliance with City and State laws and ordinances pertaining to minimum housing codes, junk vehicles, zoning and grassy lots. This position is required to drive to various City locations for inspections and meetings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conducts on-site inspections to ensure compliance with applicable codes
- Documents efforts taken to bring property owners into compliance with laws, codes, regulations, ordinances, and standards
- Prepares cases and acts as a witness in court for pre-trial, jury trial and bench trial
- Maintains confidential information
- Handles complaints regarding code issues (by phone, in the office or job site)
- Consults with homeowners and property owners to discuss code compliance
- Attends in-service training classes to remain current in knowledge of codes, laws, ordinances, and regulations
- Maintains complete and detailed electronic records
- Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
- Performs other duties as assigned
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- One year experience in customer service
- One year experience as a Code Officer, Building Inspector, Construction or related field
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to obtain Certification as a Code Enforcement Officer in the State of Texas within one year of employment
