POSITION: CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT
REPORTS TO: Director of Exceptional Student Education
Supervised by: Classroom Teacher/Building Principal
SUMMARY:
180 Days
Salary based on Richmond Community Schools Classified Non-Contractual Salary
Schedule. Assists and supports professional staff in a variety of daily essentialities to meet the needs of special education students as determined by their Individualized
Education Program (IEP).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Be present, on time and ready to work.
Maintain the high level of ethical behavior that is expected of all Richmond Community
Schools staff.
Maintain confidentiality of information about students and staff.
Works under the supervision of the Classroom Teacher, Building Principal, and in accordance with the school’s nursing program.
Assist in identifying and reporting suspected child abuse and neglect to appropriate school personnel and/or social authorities.
Promote good health habits.
Assist with various health screenings as required.
Attend to toileting, feeding, locomotion, and personal hygiene needs of special education students as needed.
Advise principal, building nurse of infectious and contagious disease.
Report significant student injuries, accidents and illness trends to the building principal.
Comply with code of ethics of the nursing profession and uphold and implement school rules, state laws, administrative regulations and board policies.
Maintain confidentiality of individual student health status.
Model appropriate interaction skills, social skills, and conflict management in the school environment.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
CPR/AED and First Aid Certification
Crisis Prevention Intervention Certification
EDUCATION:
Current Indiana Certified Nursing Assistant License
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Oral and written communication skills required.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Basic Math skills.
REASONING ABILITY:
Have good problem solving.
Possess good diagnostic methods for illness, injuries and medical emergencies.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Dispense medications to students according to physician instructions.
Learn, interpret, apply and explain applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
Respond effectively and appropriately to emergency situations.
Work independently with little direction.
Meet schedules and time lines,
Observe health and safety regulations.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Operate a computer.

While performing this job, the employee is frequently required to sit or stand for extended periods of time, bend at the waist, kneel or crouch to assist students.
Reach overhead above the shoulders and horizontally to retrieve supplies.
Good vision to read a variety of materials and screen student health conditions.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard,
Have good hearing and speaking to exchange information.
Ability to lift or transfer student as needed.
HAZARDS:
Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens and/or bodily fluids.
