Job Summary
Manages all phases of Clinical Nutrition and Patient Related Services (Diet Office and Meal Servers). Development and maintain all of the Clinical Nutrition policies, procedures and protocols to ensure compliance with The Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies. Mentors and educates staff. Develops and approves patient menus and participates in interdisciplinary committees. Communicates patient care issues to other professionals and ancillary services. Rounds on patients to ensure high quality care is being provided.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE:
- Satisfactory completion of appropriate academic requirements for the field of dietetics and related disciplines and receipt of a baccalaureate or higher degree from a college or university accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges or other regional accreditation agency.
- Satisfactory Completion of a program of supervised practice for a minimum of 900 hours that is designed to prepare entry level practitioners through instruction and assignments in a clinical setting. Supervisors of the program shall meet minimum qualifications established by public or private agencies or institutions recognized by the State Department of Health Services to establish those qualifications.
- Satisfactory completion of an examination administered by a public or private agency or institution recognized by the State Department of Health Services as qualified to administer the examinations.
- Satisfactory completion of continuing education requirements established by a public or private agency or institution recognized by the State Department of Health Services to establish the requirements.
- Minimum five years' experience as a Registered Dietitian in the acute care setting with demonstrated ability to make clinical judgments in an efficient and effective manner.
- Management experience as part of the five years preferred, but not required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS:
- In absence of Director, the Clinical Nutrition Manager of Food and Nutrition Services can assume responsibility for department.
- Develops education materials.
- Demonstrates the ability to participate in performance improvement activities and utilizes performance improvement data to improve the delivery of nutrition care services.
- Defines the role of nutrition care in critical pathways, protocols, or standards of care.
- Develops and monitors standards for nutrition care and /or diet manual.
- Develops policies and procedures to assure compliance with federal and state standards, regulations, laws, and guidelines for nutrition care, Title 22, JCAHO, OBRA and HACCP.
- Utilizes appropriate management techniques and strategies in managing nutrition services.
- Demonstrates ability to develop, implements, and evaluates organization's staff education and training.
- Demonstrates ability to develop and monitor staffing plans including hiring, promotions and terminations.
- Develops and monitor a competency program for clinical staff.
- Demonstrates ability to evaluate employee performance based on established performance standards.
- Demonstrates ability to plan menus that are acceptable based on texture, color, flavor, form/shape, consistency, temperature, and method of preparation.
- Demonstrates ability to apply knowledge of food preferences as determined by age, ethnic, religious, and lifestyle influences when planning menus.
- Demonstrates ability to analyze menus for nutrient content.
- Knowledge of physiological function, related to various disease processes and the nutritional care as it applies to each age group of the population served.
- Able to support the mission and vision, and policies, including safety policies, of the Nutrition Service Department and LRH&MC.
- Able to maintain strict confidentiality in regards to patient and hospital information with knowledge of HIPPA guidelines.
- Provides care according to organizational ethics and the standards of professional practice for dietetic professionals.
- Demonstrates knowledge and appropriate use of the computer system.
- Supervises Dietetic Internship Program.
- Performs self-assessment, prepares a portfolio for professional development, and participates in lifelong learning activities.
- Communicates effectively with patients, physicians, nurses, and other ancillary staff.
- Demonstrates the ability to accurately assess patients' nutrient needs using
- Identifies age-related factors that may influence nutritional assessment.
- Accurately calculates protein, calorie, and fluid requirements to meet age -specific needs of patients.
- Accurately calculates nutrient content of tube feeding prescriptions and parenteral nutrition formulations.
- Makes appropriate recommendations for nutrition care regarding changes based on the nutritional care of the patient.
- Knowledge of therapeutic diets with the ability to plan and correct menus for all diet modifications.
- Develops individualized nutrition care plans for all patients.
- Applies current research information to the delivery of optimal nutrition care.
- Participates in interdisciplinary teams as requested by the organization.
- Neat, well-groomed and dresses appropriately.
- Able to adhere to work schedule so that nutritional care is accomplished in necessary time frame.
- Able to make judgments in an efficient and effective manner.
- Able to work independently.
- Able to initiate and complete special projects in an independent manner.
