This position is responsible for working with our policyholders effectively and efficiently on low complexity level; Commercial Auto, Hired Non-Owned Auto, and/or third-party General Liability losses.
What you’ll be doing:
- Promptly reviews and acts with urgency in establishing initial and subsequent contact with all parties and key stakeholders.
- Provide quality customer service and ensure file quality, timely coverage analysis and communication with insured based on application of policy information to facts or allegations of each case.
- Effective and timely communication with insureds, insured general counsel, and making exceptional customer service a top priority
- Update appropriate parties as needed, providing new facts as they become available, and their impact upon the liability analysis and settlement options.
- Analyzes and interprets policy language in conjunction with specific loss facts to reach appropriate coverage decisions.
- Proactively communicates with internal and external stakeholders, including insured’s, regarding coverage decisions
- Maintain discipline in securing and updating key information within the claim handling platform throughout the life of the claim.
- Establishes and maintains appropriate initial and subsequent loss and expense reserves throughout the life of the claim.
- Act with urgency in collaborating with internal stakeholders regrading significant changes within claim reserving.
- Directly investigate each claim through prompt and strategically-appropriate contact with appropriate parties such as policyholders, accounts, claimants, law enforcement agencies, witnesses, agents, medical providers and technical experts to determine the extent of liability, damages, and contribution potential. Interview witnesses and stakeholders; take necessary statements, as strategically appropriate.
- Evaluate all claims for recovery potential; directly handle recovery efforts and/or engage and direct Company resources for recovery efforts.
- Utilize diary management system to ensure that all claims are handled timely. At required time intervals, evaluate liability and damages exposure.
- Managing vendors involved with claim files, i.e. Independent Adjusters, Defense Attorneys, and Coverage Counsel
Qualifications
A few skills we would love to see in you are; Claims handling experience in all lines of property and casualty commercial experience, excellent communication (verbal/written) organizational, interpersonal skills, excellent analytical and problem solving skills. Individuals who are self-starters, intrinsically motivated and comfortable making decisions independently will find success.
Also-must have or be able to obtain an adjuster's license.

Leadership in claims impacts our company top to bottom; leading on best practices, outcomes, innovation, data analysis, and people will allow us to create best outcomes for our clients and offer a great customer experience. By implementing sound Best Claim Practices, policies and procedures, this position contributes to organizational profitability and excellent claim outcomes by driving effective claim handling strategy and managing loss costs and claim expenses. Auto liability will be Intrepid’s leading line of coverage managed internally for the long term, it is important to have practices and strategies to arrive at the best outcomes.
This position owns the following, in addition to other responsibilities as the role evolves:
- Work closely with the VP of Claims on vision, planning and execution to create a best in class claims organization
- Provide direction, leadership and responsible for the development and direct management of all claim’s personnel, including; lawyers, technical leads, loss control and adjusters.
- Ensure claim management and case reserves are consistent with company guidelines and philosophy.
- Address all reserving, payment and settlement requests within position’s authority.
- Provide direction, leadership, responsible for the development and direct management of the department’s internal quality audit process to ensure compliance of best claim practices, processes and procedures.
- Direction, leadership, development and related responsibilities to include internal and external litigation guidelines, panel counsel and litigated claim outcomes.
- Assist with the development and use of metrics and analytics to identify trends and drives the department’s success.
- Collaborate with multiple departments to ensure sound reserving practices are in place and maintained.
- Knowledgeable in our targeted industries to identify risks, trends and support needs.
- Responsible for key functions related to attracting, retention, and development of claim organization.
- Lead Round Table Discussions in accordance with department best practices.
Qualifications
- Seven or more years of experience as a casualty claim professional with a high degree of specialized and technical competence in the handling of CGL, Commercial Auto, and Hired Non-Owned Auto claims with emphasis on hands-on file and litigation management.
- Experience with primary and excess bodily injury, property damage, and personal injury claims.
- Strong background and demonstrated ability in dealing with significant coverage matters.

Education Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- Professional designations preferred.
