Alaska Testlab (ATL) is a one-of-a-kind employer-based out of Anchorage. ATL specializes in construction field testing, laboratory testing of soils, rock, aggregates, concrete, masonry and bituminous mixtures, special inspection services, and other specialty services throughout Alaska. You name it, we test it!


We are currently recruiting for a full-time, year-round Materials (Civil) Engineer in Anchorage to join our team. Must love dogs, BBQ, and a good laugh.

Summary

As a Materials Engineer, you will provide special engineering oversight in accordance with the International Building Code, specifications, ATL policies, and published standards. The Materials Engineer will be responsible for materials engineering assistance to in-house personnel, clients, and others as required. This position assists with quantities, mix designs, proposals, and provides geotechnical test result interpretations. The Materials Engineer will also provide oversight to Field and Laboratory personnel. Engineers at Alaska Testlab are hands on, working side by side with laboratory personnel or travelling to project sites.


Education & Experience

A Bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited civil engineering program is required, plus experience in construction, civil engineering, or geotechnical engineering. Flexibility for travel is required, travel will be anticipated between 20-30% of the time and may include overnight stays at remote job sites. Ability to obtain certifications in materials testing will be required.


Certificates, Licenses & Registrations

  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.
  • Certification as an EI/EIT required.
  • ACI Certification (concrete) required or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • ICC Certification (soils, concrete) required or ability to obtain within one year.
  • PE License or ability to become licensed within one year.
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
The job involves travelling to remote Alaska and working with other contractors on job sites, working with ATL employees and a mix of customer employees and managers. From time to time, this job also includes being subjected to the elements outside, or at the job site. If you've been to Alaska, you may know that this includes extreme cold in the winter and hot temperatures in the summer. Other elements related to various job sites may include heat and hazards including, but not limited to, working on scaffolding, moving vehicles, and moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Physical demands include listening, talking, writing, walking, sitting, standing, regularly lifting modest payloads (rarely more than 75lbs.), getting in and out of vehicles, and operating a range of equipment.
