Job description

· Performs a variety of engineering calculations using traditional engineering methods or Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to document compliance with project and code requirements, which may include; foundation analyses, structural frame analyses, and one-off FEA model analyses.

· Familiarity with ANSYS, LS-DYNA, or other similar FEA software is preferred.

· Generates, and is fully conversant with layout plans, foundation details, steelwork details, and architectural feature design.

· Ensures relevant design criteria, specifications, practices, procedures and codes and site design and safety and licensing basis are used in preparation of design media.

· Interfaces with staff, within the team and supporting sub-contractors to ensure work is being completed in a safe and efficient manner, ensuring that safety is an integral element embodied in equipment design and specification.

· Works in multi-discipline teams on project-based work and ensures integration of design across multiple disciplines.

· Works on a timeline, ensuring the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of work and initiates corrective measures to overcome delays.

· Understands, complies and is responsible for working to environmental health and safety policies and procedures, and attends meetings as required.

· Recommends new equipment, concepts and techniques to improve performance, simplify design, reduce costs, correct design flaws or to comply with changes in client requirements, codes or regulations.

· Assists in the preparation of D&D design documents and plant modifications, including containment access enlargement designs, containment opening door design, etc.

· Develop technical scope of work (SOW) documents used for the procurement of commercial components such as palfinger cranes, containment/waste handling tent designs, etc.

· Support Final Status Survey (FSS) by standardizing basement surface area and wall/floor penetration data methodology and formatting.
· Develop large component blocking and bracing designs per 49 CFR 393.102.
· Develop designs for waste packages including DOT Industrial package Type 2 (IP-2) per 49 CFR 173.410.

Job Requirements

· Strong communication skills

· Intermediate knowledge of FEA and other civil design software and Microsoft office

· Strong knowledge in functional discipline and its practical application

· Strong knowledge of industry codes and regulations

Minimum Qualifications and Years of Experience
· BS in Civil/Structural engineering.
· Minimum of 6 years active Civil/Structural engineering experience demonstrating a range of assignments.
· Require a multi-disciplinary knowledge of engineering and can interact with multi-disciplinary work groups.
· Be able to develop and maintain project schedules.
· Work with minimum supervision.
· A Professional Engineer certification is not required but the candidate would be encouraged to obtain licensure.
