The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources is seeking two (2) VISTA Summer Associates (SA) to work full-time facilitating healthy lifestyle education programming among summer camp participants. We are seeking motivated, optimistic, and organized individuals who enjoy working with youth (ages 6-14) and teach them creative ways to live a healthy lifestyle. SA will receive training and mileage reimbursement and will be assigned at the City of Raleigh’s Summer camp locations/food sites. The goal of the Health and Wellness Summer Camp outreach program is to encourage healthy living and overall well-being of summer camp participants through interactive activities that promote, physical, social, and emotional well-being. Camp participants will: have fun; learn how to make healthy choices about how they eat and play; connect and work collaboratively with other camp participants and relate to others through social interaction and emotional awareness. Summer Associates will receive training that will focus on youth development, empowerment, behavior management, adversity, resilience, safety, and topics related to the curriculum being taught and will be provided with materials and equipment to deliver healthy lifestyle experiences to youth. SA will also evaluate activities, develop solutions, and implement necessary adjustments to meet summer camp participants’ physical and emotional needs. Summer Associates are expected to be active and enthusiastic participants in leading all healthy lifestyle camp program activities and assist Raleigh Parks staff in creating a safe, nurturing, fun, supportive, and positive experience for camp participants. Member Duties : Member Activity 1 - Attend pre-summer camp training that will focus on youth development, empowerment, behavior management, adversity, resilience, safety, and topics related to the curriculum that will be delivered to camp participants. Member Activity 2 – Train participants and facilitate health and wellness programs at summer camp locations in collaboration with Raleigh Parks Health and Wellness staff. Member Activity 3 – Identify and meet participants’ physical and emotional needs. Member Activity 4 - Evaluate activities, develop solutions, and implement necessary adjustments to meet summer camp participants’ needs and improve program delivery.
