Job description
Harnett County Department of Social Services is currently recruiting for a Child Support Agent II to provide child support services to public assistance and non-public assistance clients in locating absent parents, establishing paternity, establishing support orders, and enforcing and/or modifying support and medical support orders.
This employee performs intake functions that involve interviewing, collecting and assessing information to ensure Automated Collection and Tracking System opens case at the appropriate level. The agent must locate the non-custodial parent using all available sources, review the case to determine if paternity is an issue, establish support by interviewing client and non-custodial parent, verify income and expenses of all parties, and proceed with court action to establish support if needed. The agent must also monitor terms of the court order by reviewing information in the tracking system, identifying cases in delinquency status and determining appropriate enforcement action. Court activities may include testifying, negotiating prospective payment plans, prepare appropriate court orders as needed, and conferences with IV-D attorney. Other tasks include financial management and accounting of child support orders, certifications of arrears, case maintenance, customer service and interstate tasks that include processing cases coming into NC from another State or County through the NC Central Registry.
This employee may perform other duties as assigned by the Director and/or Supervisor. These duties may include shelter management services at times of natural or man-made emergencies.
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
A four year degree and six months experience in investigative, judiciary, eligibility or legal work that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the work; or an Associate's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Law Enforcement or closely related degree and two years of experience in investigative, judiciary, eligibility, or legal work that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the work; or graduation from high school and three years of experience in investigative, judiciary, eligibility or legal work that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the work.
Bilingual in Spanish and English is preferred.

Licensing and Certifications:
Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.
