Department Overview:
The Communications department is responsible for developing institutional messaging, curating content, and producing products to effectively convey GBH’s mission and impact to multiple audiences. It builds support for GBH’s leadership, programs, and activities through strategic communications efforts on multiple platforms.
Job Summary
You love print magazines (yes, we said print!) and have experience writing feature articles and conducting interviews. As the Chief Editor of EXPLORE GBH, you will manage all content and production for GBH’s 32-page monthly institutional publication sent to over 180,000 members. You will write and edit two long-form feature articles and work with contributors across GBH on program highlights. You are fastidious about details, have an eye for photography, are a strong team player, can spot typos a mile away, and have never missed a deadline. An experienced writer/editor of feature articles and content, both short and long-form, to manage the production of GBH’s monthly member magazine.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Practice good judgment in curating content for our membership audience
- Write and edit compelling content and select related imagery for the print magazine
- Flex between short-form content and long-form feature writing and interviews.
- Provide high-quality creative work in a deadline-driven environment.
- Establish and maintain a bar of editorial excellence for proofreading and editing.
- Maintain professional relationships with departments across the organization.
SPECIFIC TASKS
- Write two long-form feature articles for the monthly print magazine by conducting interviews with filmmakers, produ,cers and other creators.
- Write/edit/curate all short-form content in the monthly print magazine.
- Manage a team of content producers of the monthly print magazine.
- Ensure production calendars and tracking sheets are updated regularly.
- Work well with teams across GBH.
SKILLSET
- 3+ years of writing feature articles and managing a magazine or related institutional publication.
- An available online portfolio.
- Ability to transform complex information into clear and compelling content.
- Ability to think both strategically and creatively.
- Strong team player, able to take and incorporate creative direction to elevate output.
- Able to conceptualize and execute projects, with a strong bias for action.
- Strong management skills.
- Impeccable attention to grammatical detail, excellent proofreading skills, as well as an eye for good design and photography.
- Tenacious self-starter with a passion for effective communications.
- Able to own and manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment.
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
