Job Summary

Under the direction and leadership of the Director of Support Services, the Security Training Instructor manages, coordinates, and delivers training programs for security officers and other employees. Acts to ensure compliance with legally mandated, contractual, and company-mandated training requirements. Works closely with agency leadership to build and maintain successful training programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the design and implementation of security training courses to include classroom, self-studies, computer-based, and web-based training, as appropriate. \\
  • Coordinate initial and refresher knowledge and skills training to security staff on organizational expectations for the delivery of security and protection in accordance with Security Licensing requirements.
  • Monitor the training program to ensure security staff competency in all aspects of their job responsibilities.
  • Coordinate training schedules and compile records relating to the delivery of training, including attendance records, measured performance of security staff during training and the effectiveness of the training.
  • Manage, provide coaching, and assess the performance of security field training officer staff; direct personnel and aid as needed.
  • Identify strategies for maximizing the effectiveness and efficiency of the security-training program.
  • Provide general and specialized security awareness instruction to non-security staff including the organization's security policies and procedures during new employee orientation, refresher training, and other times and outlined in the security awareness training program.
  • Act as a resource and answer questions for security personnel and general staff on security issues.
  • Help devise strategies to communicate security information to general staff, security personnel and managers.
  • Oversee information on the security training resources and develop strategies to maximize its ability to encourage staff compliance with security policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with HR training staff, Compliance Manager, and other department managers to ensure maximum effectiveness of security awareness initiatives.
  • Make recommendations for enhancing the delivery of security services and protection of personnel, property, and assets against fire, theft, vandalism, terrorism, and all illegal and unauthorized activity.
  • Speak up when team members appear to exhibit unsafe behavior or performance.
  • Continuously validate and verify information needed for decision making or documentation
  • Demonstrate accurate, clear, and timely verbal and written communication
  • Conduct training needs assessments through review and analysis of training programs, assessment of the security operation, and interviews with stakeholders.
  • Provide reports to senior security leadership on training conducted, performance of personnel, and effectiveness of training. Offer recommendations for improving the training curriculum.
  • Evaluate the performance of security staff in the field as it relates to the adherence to training protocols and department policies and procedures during real world situations.

Qualifications
  • You have a high school education or equivalent (GED). Associates or a Bachelor's degree is related field is preferred.
  • You are a citizen or legal resident alien of the United States or have been granted authority to work in this country by the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizen, and Immigration Services.
  • You have been licensed as a Florida Class "D" security officer for at least three years.
  • Prior experience in event staffing, law enforcement, and/or military experience is preferred but not required.
  • You possess a valid Florida "DI" Security License.

Required Skills/Knowledge
  • Must possess knowledge of the operations, services, and activities of a comprehensive security program.
  • Must demonstrate solid interpersonal skills, professional judgment, problem solving skills and competency in the delivery of training programs.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must possess excellent leadership skills and demonstrate the ability to analyze, strategize, and implement a training program.
  • Demonstrates self-motivation and ability to self-direct work.
  • Possesses a strong understanding of information technology necessary for managing a records maintenance program, and oversight of training program materials.
  • Advanced computer skills/familiarity with business software required.
  • Articulate and able to use good independent judgement and discretion with understanding the significance of notifying superiors and colleagues when appropriate
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written; reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language
  • Adaptability - Responds effectively to changes in situation or information
  • Ability to pass a background check

Physical and Mental Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, it is required to frequently sit, stand, walk, talk, or hear. You may be required to stand or walk for extended periods of time (up to 10 hours). On occasion, you may be required to climb and work in high places, stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders. The position may also require work in confined spaces and exposure to different types of outdoor weather conditions.

Must occasionally lift, push, or pull up to 45 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
