Description:

The Certified Orthotist will be responsible for the evaluation, fabrication and custom fitting of orthopedic braces, specialize in designing and fitting orthopedic braces such as surgical supports and corrective and work within a dynamic team.

Requires current certification by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics and previous Orthotics experience.

Requirements:

The Certified Orthotist will perform the following:

  • Interviews and evaluates patients to determine their orthotic needs. based on physician orders, measures, casts and/or fits customized orthotics.
  • Performs fittings, including static and dynamic alignments.
  • Discusses therapeutic goals with patients.
  • Instructs patients on how to use and care for their devices.
  • Adjusts, repairs or replaces orthotic devices.
  • Documents care in patients’ records.
  • Confers with physicians to formulate specifications and prescriptions for orthotic devices.
  • Documents care in patient’s records according to Noridian requirements
  • Knowledge of multiple insurance requirements required to ensure accurate billing
  • Works with Manager to increase department revenue through growth opportunities
  • Stays up to date with core competencies and licenses
  • Manages and sets up new accounts in database; accurately intakes information on product requested or prescribed
  • Obtain, enter and verify insurance coverage, including following all guidelines stipulated by insurance
  • Maintains a high-level understanding of insurance billing of supplies and equipment
  • Makes phone calls to gather current demographic and insurance information
  • Trains and evaluates company brace fitting team to ensure accurate assessment and documentation

a. Attend all group training sessions

b. CEUs as needed

5. Education and evaluation of Brace Fitting team

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Job may operate in a retail environment with merchandise displays and items available for purchase in inventory. Job requires visits to local hospitals and physicians’ offices.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing throughout the day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items under 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time hourly position, including evening and weekend hours.

Travel

30% of travel required for hospital brace fittings

Required Education and Experience

  • COF Certification from accredited organization (BOC)
  • High school diploma
  • At least 2 years’ experience in healthcare

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience in Durable Medical Equipment
  • Experience in Retail Environment
