Position Summary:

The Cellar Worker II position is integral to the production team at Double Canyon. Under limited supervision, the experienced Cellar Worker II will perform all functions in our cellar such as racking, transfers, tank sanitation & barrel cleaning, grape processing, pump overs, and all the other tasks that are performed in our cellar. This position possesses a working knowledge of different cellar tasks. Responsibilities will increase with skill level.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs sanitation in all areas of cellar operations; tanks, hoses, barrels, pumps, crush equipment and any other equipment necessary to maintain the integrity of the must and wine.
  • Demonstrated ability to competently run a Hyster 70 to stack barrels five high, organize and plot out barrel storage by Wine Lot allowing for swift barrel access and easy lot sampling.
  • Assist in the receiving and processing of grapes; operates receiving equipment including hoist, auger, destemmer. Sets up receiving tank and must lines.
  • Performs harvest inoculations, feeds and additions, pumpovers, delestage and must removal from tanks.
  • Carries out cellar procedures such as: rack and returns, rack off gross lees, tank to tank or barrel to tank, and filtrations.
  • Set ups and executes filling, topping and additions to barrels.
  • Assist with training on all cellar operations. During harvest will help train and lead a seasonal harvest staff on all aspects of the cellar.
  • Reads and performs cellar tasks as directed in the work order. Able to comprehend detailed work order instructions, complete the job and fill out work orders to completion.
  • Assists in bottling including but not limited to working on the bottling line in any capacity, QC checks on wine and bottling components, receipt of components, loading of finished case goods, DO checks, filtration and assisting Signature bottling operators when necessary.
  • Ability to operate all required equipment: pallet jack, scissor lift, forklift, filters, pumps and barrel washers.
  • Keep up general cleanliness and good sanitation in winey.
  • Perform basic maintenance on winery equipment such as: hose repair, pump rebuilds, forklift battery and forklift upkeep.
  • Always maintain a safe work environment.


Qualifications:

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Years of Experience: 3 or more years’ previous cellar experience
  • Must be able to accurately carry out written and verbal instructions.
  • Must be able to read and understand English.
  • Must be responsible and work well with others.
  • Must be able to perform the functions of the position as described in a normal winery environment and work with sulfur dioxide, ammonia-based sanitizers, and mild organic acids and alcohol safely and responsibly.
  • Ability to operate all required equipment: pallet jack, scissor lift, forklift, filters, pumps and barrel washers.
  • Must be able to walk, stoop and bend repeatedly.
  • Must be able to perform regular strenuous physical work.
  • Must be able to work on ladders and catwalks at heights up to 35 feet.
  • Must be able to repetitively lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Objects could be a case of wine or a wine barrel.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including long hours, overtime, and various shifts during harvest.
  • Must be able to submit to a post-offer physical and drug test and successfully pass all areas.

The projected hourly pay range for this position is $20-22 per hour. The range is the projected compensation for this position however the actual compensation offered may vary based on job-related factors such as (but not limited to) candidate qualifications, related experience and education, candidate work location and market data.
