This position is a key member of the marketing team with responsibilities for the products and vendors carried in our stores. You must be a strategic thinker with the ability to be the student of the industry in identifying where the convenience retail customer is going. You will be tactical and detail-oriented with strong analytical and project management skills.

Some of what you’ll do as a Category Manager (Tobacco) :
  • Achieve sales and margin targets as developed in the planning process.
  • Develop and implement category plans throughout the network of stores.
  • Negotiate trading terms with applicable vendors, and leverage Jacksons scale and capabilities to continually enhance support.
  • Connect with frontline employees, department managers and all other levels of leadership.
  • Ensure coaching, mentoring and development of all employees and leaders in the execution of the category initiatives.
  • Develop marketing and promotional programs for items and categories.
  • Develop and implement merchandising tools including planograms, racking, and displays.
  • Identify and implement private label opportunities.
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with Operations and Merchandising Service team to ensure precise implementation of category offers.
  • Work closely with other Category Managers and Merchandising Services Manager to optimize merchandising strategies and overall store performance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
You’ll be a great fit if you have:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in Category Management preferably in the convenience store industry.
  • Knowledge of tobacco category management especially in a small format retail environment, ideally in c-stores.
  • A thorough understanding of the retail customer and how they engage and shop small retail offers.
  • Strong analytical skills using a data-driven approach for strategic decision making.
  • Proficiency with the MS Office suite.
  • A history of being self-motivated and having strong attention to detail.
  • The ability to work well in teams and independently with a wide degree of latitude and decision-making discretion.
  • The ability to use effective time management to meet department and promotion deadlines.
Physical Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, bend, and twist; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects and controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. This position will typically be exposed to a standard office environment. While supporting marketing initiatives onsite, environmental conditions the incumbent will be exposed to include heat, cold, allergen, noise, and fume/chemical/odor exposure from gasoline and cleaning chemicals.
