Career Services Career Coaching Coordinator

ABOUT THIS POSITION

Summary: This position is a term-limited position, beginning January 1, 2023, and ending December 31, 2024. This position provides essential career navigation and coaching to students, alumni, and job seekers. This position is responsible for providing individual and targeted assistance in career development initiatives by identifying and connecting students with skills training, work-based training, and placement opportunities in preparation for employment.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Develop and implement effective coaching strategies to help students and Alumni overcome employment-related challenges.
  • Advise and connect students to career development and placement opportunities
  • Conduct individual appointments with students and alumni, including career counseling, assisting students in job preparation, interview prep, career assessment, and clarification of academic and career goals
  • Build communication and connections with campus academic advisors, student success advisors, program directors, faculty, the Alumni Office, Mesa County Workforce Center, and College and Career Advisors (CCA) to connect students to resources and career guidance.
  • Guide and assist students with registration in the Connecting Colorado system.
  • Design and deliver classroom presentations and workshops on resume writing, cover letter writing, interview skills, job search, and other related areas.
  • Coordinate with Mesa County Workforce Center for existing workshops to help increase enrollment.
  • Interpret career assessment instruments, such as Strong Inventory Interests (SII) to help guide students on a career path.
  • Coordinate scheduling of appointments and track data patterns.
  • Collaborate with the Workforce Development Liaison to identify possible employment opportunities and employer connections.
  • Supervise and develop a training framework for Student Employees, including Peer Mentors, Front Desk Assistants, and Business Closet Team.
  • Manage daily office functions including student worker hiring, timesheet approvals, scheduling, daily office routines, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Collaborate with Career Services colleagues to design and implement career development opportunities, networking events, and career fairs for students and alumni.
  • Coordinate and work directly with CMU, WCCC, D51 and R5 students to provide a continuum of services and appropriate resources for workforce development.
  • Perform administrative tasks and job-related duties as necessary for the effective operations of the Career Services office, operating CMU and WCCC campuses.
  • Compile and report statics and quarterly reports in a timely manner or as required.
  • Attend meetings as necessary.

    Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Experience in public speaking or giving presentations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have the demonstrated ability to work independently and with co-workers
  • Ability to multitask and manage time effectively
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience assisting students in areas related to academic coaching, mentoring, or career coaching
  • Knowledge of a variety of career paths and strategies for career development
  • Experience working with first-generation, low income, at-risk populations and/or groups that are underrepresented in higher education
  • Supervisory experience and/or oversight responsibility for managing a team
  • Familiarity with a variety of employers and industries
