The Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites (ISMHS) is a statewide museum system with 12 locations including the Indiana State Museum in downtown Indianapolis and 11 historic sites in the Indiana communities of Evansville, Corydon, New Albany, Rome City, Madison, Fountain City, Geneva, New Harmony, Nashville, Vincennes, and Metamora.

Salary
:

This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $52,000.


About the Job:

The Camp Program Manager is responsible for the oversight of summer and school-year camp programs at the Indiana State Museum. The manager is responsible for program development and implementation, budget, hiring, training, and supervision of camp staff. Primary focus will be on maintaining quality camp experiences for youth, both new and returning camp families. Incumbent will also cultivate relationships with camp families to build life-long learners.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Research, develop, and facilitate camp programs and curriculum that align with youth interests and ISMHS objectives
  • Analyze and research trends in camp programming and oversee adaptation of current camp curriculum to address changing needs and interests of the public and to take advantage of new opportunities for the museum
  • Maintain and update camp procedures and policies in line with local and national guidelines
  • Connect with local school districts or attend promotional events to market school break camps
  • Connect and collaborate with local, regional, and national wide camp providers
  • Purchase, maintain, and prepare all materials for camps. This includes preparing camp room with needed materials, camp roster and camp curriculum
  • Use reservation system to create rosters, check-in lists materials, reservation tracking
  • Hire and supervise contract and intermittent educators assisting with camp
  • Work with the Director of Education Engagement to align and implement goals, objectives and learning outcomes with department goals and programs
  • Evaluate programming on a regular basis, adjusting activities and curriculum as needed
  • Lead school programs and assist with special events and other programs as needed
  • Travel to offsite school programs and school events
  • Manage and track camp budget

What You'll Need for Success:

    • Bachelor’s degree preferred or relevant work experience
    • Must have formal and/or informal teaching experience with youth
    • Experience working with diverse communities
    • Excellent classroom communication and enthusiasm while interacting with youth of all ages and abilities
    • Must be a team player
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including long camp days
    • Ability to research and write programs, reports, and evaluations
    • Ability to work with others on a development team, producing a unified product
    • Ability to accept critical suggestions and respond effectively to program evaluations
    • Strong organizational, critical, and detailed thinking, analysis and networking skills
    • Familiarity with ADA compliancy rules and procedures and awareness of cultural sensitivity issues
    • Travel required in local, regional, and statewide area
