SMC is a full-line industrial and commercial distributor of electrical, automation, fluid power, data comm, and industrial/safety products in Missouri and Kansas. Established in 1950 and operating out of 13 stocking locations, SMC strives to helping our customers succeed by providing solutions with industry leading products, applicable training, and knowledgeable support.

About the Role

This proactive position requires an individual to work within our business system and establish daily, weekly, monthly purchase orders with our vendors to stock at our various locations. This person will be located at our Cape Girardeau branch and must be able to work within a team environment and able to support the various request at many levels of management within SMC.

Responsibilities of the Buyer

• Process and place orders utilizing our business system and best practices on purchasing levels
• Work with all branch managers and manage ordering controls as needed
• Monitor nonstock orders and evaluate for stock conversions
• Maintain ordering controls
• Maximize inventory turns within financial limitations of each branch inventories
• Attend daily team meetings to support each other at separate locations
• Stock rotations
• Process rush orders
• Answer phone calls on general purchasing extension

Qualifications of the Buyer

• Strong communication and organizational skills - establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Good attention to detail for accurate purchase orders
• Strong interpersonal skills to work with all team members, branch managers, inside sales, product specialists, and product vice presidents
• Strong work ethic
• Willing to take on tasks as directed
• Strong problem-solving skills and decision making ability - analyze information and find the best possible solution
• Previous buying experience is preferred

Pay: $20.00 - $27.00 per hour
