Overview:

Merrick & Company is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager for our High Performance Facilities (HPF) Business Unit. This position is needed to support HPF’s continued growth in the federal government market. The preferred locations for this person would be our offices in Greenwood Village (Denver Metro), CO; San Antonio, TX; Atlanta, GA; Huntsville, AL; or Merritt Island, FL


This position is responsible for the acquisition of new business in current and potential markets primarily with the Department of Defense and Intel Agencies community. In this role, the Business Development Manager works jointly with the Business Unit Leader, HPF Project Managers, and HPF Business Development colleagues. Using the annual business plan developed by the HPF Team, the Business Development Manager develops and implements strategies/tactics for identifying clients and opportunities. The Business Development Manager executes business development activities such as market research, market positioning, networking, relationship development, proposal development, teaming and negotiations that lead to contracts with these clients. The BD Professional also coordinates and collaborates with other Merrick business units to identify joint pursuits that utilize skillsets across the Merrick enterprise.


Typical salary range for this position is $120,000-$200,000.00 annually. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. The successful candidate will report to the HPF Senior Director of Business Development.


Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Establish the strategic plan, goals, and objectives of the business development effort each fiscal year along with the HPF Business Unit Leader and HPF Business Development colleagues.
  • Using market research and other information identify potential opportunities appropriate for HPF’s A/E services.
  • Track Federal funding and marketing trends to find potential white space in these markets.
  • Identify and develop relationships with key client decision makers.
  • Work directly with the HPF Business Unit Leader, HPF Business Development colleagues and Project Managers in pursuit of new opportunities and mining existing IDIQ contracts.
  • Work directly with Central Marketing Services in the preparation of proposals and other collateral marketing materials to properly position and promote the Merrick HPF Team brand.
  • Participate in conferences, professional associations such as SAME and ACEC, and other external organizations to develop a network of business contacts.
  • Maintain client relationships during project delivery and participate in the Merrick client satisfaction survey program.
  • Develop a network of potential teaming partners in the Federal Agencies design, construction, and consultant industries.
  • Become familiar with Merrick’s HPF Team’s service lines and key personnel capabilities.
  • Be reasonably familiar with the technical requirements of HPF Team projects, their cost and the processes involved in their design.
  • Use the central CRM system for contact and opportunity tracking and participate in weekly sales meetings and reporting.
  • Lead strategic, winning pursuits to achieve the new business team goal planned each fiscal year in concert with other BD Managers, Project Managers, and the Business Unit Leader.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required (Business, Architecture, Engineering, Marketing).
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the Engineering/Architecture/Construction industry is required.
  • Professional registration or certification in Architecture, Engineering, Project Management or Marketing is preferred.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain clients in the A/E industry.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work well under deadline pressure.
  • Existing network of Department of Defense clients and teaming partners, network a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Work collaboratively with diverse teams, project managers, technical managers, and project staff.

  • Travel is required and could be 40% of the position’s time.
