The Bookshop Lead Associate is a
Ministerial position.
Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) Christian mission, vision, beliefs, culture code and standards of conduct. They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA’s Christian community, conference programs and retreats. All staff are expected to join gatherings, which includes prayer, worship, and Bible-centered teaching.
Position Objective:
The Bookshop Lead Associate works with the Bookshop Manager to lead and set a positive example for the Bookshop Associate, providing guidance as needed during the shift, while the Bookshop Associate Manager and Bookshop Manager are out by providing and coaching staff for excellent customer service in a welcoming and professional environment, consistent in manner with MHA mission, vision and values.
Key Job Accountabilities :
- Lead and coach Bookshop Associates on a wide array of tasks, systems and policies to provide an excellent customer service setting for guests and customers.
- Work independently with little supervision or as directed by the Associate Bookshop Manager or Bookshop Manager to accomplish a high level of efficiency on the sales floor.
- Work well with co-workers, guests, and other MHA Staff; displaying a team-oriented mindset and attitude.
- Assist in training part time Bookshop Associates or Summer Staff as directed by the managers in order to maintain continuity on the sales floor.
- Act as primary associate when the Bookshop Manager is absent.
- Multi-task while receiving books and overseeing customer service / point of sale (POS) while maintaining a high attention to detail in order to attain a high level of accuracy for inventory and cash handling standards.
- Greet and assist Bookshop guests and complete sales transactions at POS to create a hospitable shopping environment for customers, operate computer software to reconcile daily sales, receive and stock books and merchandise, and coordinate with other team members all daily responsibilities in order to ensure a clean and inviting experience for guests.
- Complete book orders or gift orders as determined by Manager.
- Other duties as assigned by managers.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Work with Bookshop Manager to monitor, organize, direct, and motivate up to 5 staff at a time.
Part-time position; $16.25-$18.50/hour.
Education/Certifications/Licenses:
- High school graduate.
- 2 years of college experience.
Work Experience:
- 3 years of customer service/retail experience required.
- 1 year minimum MHA Bookshop experience required or 2 years of other bookstore retail required.
- Some leadership/supervisory experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Must have excellent customer service skills.- Ability to motivate and encourage staff.
- Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision.
- Ability to articulate gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
- Skilled in the use of computer programs: Word, Excel and general experience with computers to ensure competency with three inventory and retail systems.
Physical Demands:
- Requires sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting, etc.
- Some lifting required-up to 30 pounds for a maximum of 50 feet.
- Requires standing for long periods
- Requires moving merchandise/boxes between MHA sites.
- Ability and availability to work weekends.
- Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA’s Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements.
- Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
- Must agree to and comply with MHA’s employee driving guidelines for MHA-owned vehicles and use of personal vehicles for business purposes..
- Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
