Biopsy Technician

Summary

Pathology Specialists, P.A. is looking for a Biopsy Technician. The technician provides assistance and support to the attending pathologists, resident/fellows, and other hospital/lab staff. The tech’s primary duties center on the practice of pathology and involve assisting in the procurement and processing of surgical pathology specimens. PSPA is looking for an applicant who is motivated, detail-oriented, hardworking, and able to communicate with team members and health care professionals.

Biopsy Technician Job Responsibilities
- Under the general supervision of the Pathologists and Pathologists' Assistant, the qualified individual works independently when performing professional duties associated with examination and/or preparation of the surgical pathology specimens
- Demonstrate knowledge of anatomy, pathology, medical terminology and physiology sufficient to identify, dissect, and describe certain surgical specimens
- Maintain and communicates the knowledge of both departmental and hospital policies and procedures relevant to the delivery of pathology services
- Responsible for preparation of tissue for surgical specimen dissection, follow guidelines set for appropriate gross examination and submission for routine processing, and/or special procedures

Biopsy Technician Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution, OR Associate Degree in laboratory science, OR equivalent science course work meeting minimum required credits.
- Bachelor's degree must include minimally 60 semester hours or equivalent, that includes either: 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses or 24 semester hours-6 chemistry, 6 biology and 12 chemistry, biology, medical laboratory technology in any combination.

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 3 PM - 7 PM
