Please Note: This is a general Victim Assistance Specialist recruitment in the District Attorney's Office to establish a pool of candidates for future bilingual and non-bilingual full-time, part-time, limited duration, and/or temporary vacancies within the next six months.
Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate for this position will have an in-depth understanding of the complexities of the criminal justice system and the roles of the various persons in that system. This candidate will understand the resources in the community that are available to assist victims of crime, possess exceptional communication skills in person, on the phone, and in writing to inform victims of their constitutional rights and assist them in asserting them. The ideal candidate will also be comfortable giving presentations about the role of the victim advocate to community groups, partners, or assist in trainings.
Bilingual Positions: Designated bilingual positions require that the incumbent have knowledge of the Spanish language, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Skill in writing Spanish accurately; ability to speak Spanish fluently; and ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. Education and Experience:
Associate Degree or equivalent in criminal justice, corrections, social work, or related fields; and one (1) year of experience in a victim services role; OR- Three (3) years of work experience as an advocate in the justice system, probation, victim assistance, or other closely related areas serving vulnerable populations.
- Possession of a Victim Service Professional certification within one (1) year of hire date
- Must pass a comprehensive background investigation.
- Some positions may be required to pass a post-offer psychological assessment.
- Some positions may require oral and written fluency in another language.

This is a non-represented position and is not covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
Regular and limited duration full-time employees working 30 hours or more per week and job share employees are eligible for benefits beginning on the first of the month following employment. Job share employees are responsible for 50% of the premium. Part-time regular, variable hour, and temporary positions are not eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits.
