CAMP AND AWE PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
AWE FELLOWSHIP: Camp Twelve Trails is seeking ten college students to join the staff at Camp Twelve Trails in summer 2023 as Jewish Leadership Fellows. Through this endeavor, these fellows will gain academic and leadership skills. They will work in our innovative Jewish day camp, where they will support our young campers in a Jewish-values rich environment. They will serve as Jewish leaders in our program and they will be provided with multiple avenues for growth. The AWE Fellows will serve as general counselors in our overall camp program.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
AWE Fellows: are a group of Jewishly educated counselors with extra training designed to impact the culture of Camp Twelve Trails, enabling them to strengthen Camp’s Jewish identity.
AWE GOALS for CAMP:
- Behavioral - For the fellows to impact the Jewish culture of camp through building traditions, storytelling, exemplary ruach, and by embodying Jewish values through “personal example” (dugmah ishit)
- Cognitive - For the fellows to take a leading role in teaching Jewish values and content at camp.
- Affective - Participants will be asked to be "Nachshons" - people who have the courage and persistence to dive into new situations and pilot creative ideas without fearing failure.
DUTIES PRE-CAMP:
- Participate and partake in specific training for AWE Fellows.
- Adhere to all rules and regulations surrounding summer housing once moved in.
- Participate, partake in, and lead “all staff” pre-camp training.
AWE FELLOW DUTIES DURING CAMP:
- Partners with Tribe Leader to implement Jewish values based program.
- Participate in weekly meetings with Jewish education staff.
- Play an active role in Boker Tov (Morning Kickoff) and Shabbat programs.
- Promote and model storytelling within activity sessions at other times of the day.
COUNSELOR DUTIES DURING CAMP:
- Along with your co-counselor, supervise 12-15 campers during all camp activities. This includes campers with special needs that may be a part of your general group.
- Full participation in all camp activities, including swim twice a day.
- Lead and/or assist in small and large group activities either within your group or in the Neighborhoods
- Work with your co-counselor to provide the highest level of support and programming for your campers.
- Work with other counselors in your unit to help them provide support to their campers.
- Be familiar with and enforce the personnel policies, safety rules, and program of camp.
- Participate in all camp meetings, activities and special programs.
- Keep records as required, including documenting all incidents and behavioral issues.
- Ensure for the health, safety, and welfare of all campers in any area or programs at camp.
- Provide updates to TRIBE LEADERS/ CAMP RABBI and Camp Director for parent newsletter.
- Model appropriate behavior to campers including on the bus to and from camp.
- Use positive behavior-management techniques with campers.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Previous experience working with children.
- Strong communication and problem solving skills.
- Ability to remain calm and maintain perspective under pressure.
- Commitment to work collaboratively with others.
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing needs.
- Much be enthusiastic and demonstrate and desire to go the extra mile.
- Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 upon commencement of employment.
