Associate Catalysts Chemist
Status: Exempt

Position Summary
Seeking a Materials Scientist for the development of advanced catalyst materials for polymer electrolyte electrolyzer and fuel cell systems. This candidate will join Plug Power’s catalyst team to (1) develop commercially viable catalysts for water electrolysis, and (2) qualify catalyst materials in electrochemical devices. This candidate will work on synthesis, characterization, and testing of catalytic materials, including design of experiments, data collection, data processing, and presenting results. The candidate must have excellent lab etiquette, cleanliness, and attention to detail. This candidate must be self-motivated, able to handle multiple project assignments and willing to learn and adapt within a fast-paced environment.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop active and robust catalysts/electrodes with reduced usage of precious group metals for water electrolysis.
- Qualify catalytic materials from vendors/suppliers.
- Help ensure equipment is in good working order by performing equipment-specific preventive maintenance tasks and troubleshooting.
- Accurately document test methods, laboratory procedures, and analytical and experimental results.
- Work within all environmental health and safety guidelines.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- BS/MS degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, or related fields.
- Experience in nanomaterial synthesis required.
- Experience in electrochemical characterization and testing (MEA and RDE) preferred.
- Experience in physicochemical characterization (SEM, BET, ICP, XRD, etc.) preferred.
- Computer and software systems skills as applicable to position including but not limited to: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
- Dynamic interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences and stakeholders at all levels.
- Demonstrated critical thinking abilities with strong attention to detail.
- Must possess the highest ethical standards and a commitment to work quality

- Must be driven and self-motivated
