POSITION DESCRIPTION - ASSISTANT TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

DESCRIPTION

The Harris Center for the Arts & VenueTech Management Group values excellence and professionalism in all aspects of its company and public life. The Assistant Technical Director will work under the Technical Director to oversee all productions and technical needs for the facility. The Assistant Technical Director will also help coordinate and communicate with clients to ensure all technical needs are met for their event. This position will also function as a supervisor and, in the absence of the Technical Director, supervise all technical staff, and attend production meetings.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Technical Director and Center Manager:

  • Assist in organizing, pricing, purchasing, and coordinating the delivery of all production materials.
  • Ensure that the theatre is a safe working environment.
  • Maintain all technical equipment at the theatre.
  • Schedule / Coordinate technical staff for events.
  • If Technical Director is present, assume a role on the crew for each event.
  • Supervise / Direct crew and crew activities when Technical Director is not present.
  • Coordinate and attend production meetings as needed.
  • Assist in preparation of all necessary paperwork for productions.
  • Establish relationships with clients as well as performers and assist in determining the needs of each event.
  • Act as secondary liaison with clients regarding technical needs and work to make productions efficient and at or under the estimated budget.
  • Help research, implement, and install Capital Improvements Projects to the facility.
  • Other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in technical theatre, with working knowledge of Audio, Electrics, Rigging, and Q Lab.
  • Ability to supervise and lead crew activities.
  • Ability to work with clients to meet their event needs.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical problems.
  • Ability to work a varying schedule, including nights and weekends.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Docs/Drive, Calendar Management via Google Calendar.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent must be able to do the following: stand for extended periods; sit for extended periods; bend and reach for filing and other job-related functions; climb up and downstairs; bend, stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials up to 50 lbs.; pull, push, and lift; reach both above and below shoulder height. Specific audio and visual abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus, ability to evaluate and mix sound. Must be able to visually inspect work. Manual dexterity to operate technical, computer and other office equipment.

ABOUT THE HARRIS CENTER

Long envisioned as a critically important element for Folsom Lake College, the visual and performing arts center was initially conceived as a facility to instruct, develop, and guide talented students to become actors, musicians, dancers, visual artists, and behind-the-curtain technicians. In February, 2011, the Center opened as "Three Stages at Folsom Lake College" and in August, 2012, the Los Rios District Board of

Directors announced the renaming of the facility to the "Harris Center for the Arts," The 80,000-square- foot center includes three stages and is located at Folsom Lake College and hosts more than 400 events per year.

PAY RANGE

The pay range for this position is $31 to $35 per hour, will be full time and eligible for benefits.
