Summary

We are a large childcare center and preschool, licensed for up to 84 children at a time. We are located in Pullman, WA serving the Palouse since 1998.

General Position Description
  • Preschool teacher, teaching ages 3.5-4.5 years old

The assistant classroom teacher supports the lead teacher(s) in all daily operations in a developmentally appropriate preschool classroom. The teacher is skilled enough to manage a classroom, independently, up to Washington State's child to teacher ratio. Preschool is 1:10.

The assistant teacher is responsible for contributing to a cohesive teaching team, implementing the curriculum planned by the lead, and managing the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom. Our teachers must be able to take feedback with a growth mindset. Teachers must understand children's cognitive, social, emotional and physical development in order to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. The Teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the children, effectively guide teacher assistants, and resolve parental concerns.

Monthly Wage:
$16.00- $20/hour -Successful candidates typically begin at the mid-range of the hourly wage range and receive scheduled increment increases in accordance with our established educational/experience wage ladder. Starting wage is DOE/E
  • All employees are paid minimum wage until onboarding requirements are complete ($15.74/hour).

Duties

Summary of Duties and Overall Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include: implementing and evaluating curriculum activities for children; directing routine classroom activities such as meals, bathroom breaks, rest periods, and physical care; modeling appropriate nurturing and communication skills with children; directing and maintaining a safe, healthy environment; completing child assessments and conducting parent conferences; providing support to lead staff, student staff, and volunteers in classroom; upholding licensing and accreditation standards; evaluating student staff; and completing required paperwork.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and implement educational curriculum by developing classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practices and early learning standards.
  • Lead by example; encourage teaching team success through modeling and coaching.
  • Display professionalism that contributes to a positive team-work culture.
  • Ensure children are engaged in group age-appropriate activities to encourage social, cognitive and emotional growth.
  • Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions about their children's day
  • Ensure all center policies and state regulations are met.
  • Ensure a healthy classroom environment - including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children.
  • Supervise classroom volunteers to ensure they are following planned activities, hygiene and safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate records, forms and files.
  • Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience Qualifications:
  • A high school diploma or GED
  • 2 years of full-time experience in a large group childcare setting
  • At least 1 year independently working in a large group childcare setting.

Preferred Education and Experience Qualifications:
  • An associate or bachelor's degree in early childhood education or a similar degree
  • 3 years of experience in a large group childcare setting
  • 1 year as a full-time assistant teacher
