New Mexico State University at Alamogordo (NMSU-A) is a comprehensive community college located in the foothills, at the base of the Sacramento Mountains. This vantage point overlooks the city of Alamogordo and the Tularosa Basin. The service area of the school includes Holloman Air Force Base (HAFB), White Sands Missile Range, and stretches beyond the view to include the Mescalero Apache Reservation and approximately twenty villages and towns. Much of the south-central New Mexico region benefits from the convenient location of the campus. Position Number 299965 Position Job Title Assistant or Associate Professor of Studio Art Rank Associate Professor Tenure Status Tenure Track Position Summary
  • Teach 15 credits each semester in studio arts and art history at the first and second-year levels.
  • Teach weekdays, weekends, evenings, online, hybrid, and off-campus as needed. Courses in Art History are typically delivered online.
  • Develop, revise, and update curriculum in collaboration with department, college, and university faculty according to established curriculum procedures.
  • Instruct, support, advise and provide timely feedback to students in accordance with NMSU-A policies and procedures.
  • Provide professional and public service via committee work, task forces, and other working groups and provide service obligations typical of an art professor, such as collaborating in art gallery management and other duties.
  • Maintain professional and academic competence and participate in professional development activities.
Required Qualifications
  • Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art
  • Record of accomplishment in art production and a developing body of work
  • Demonstrated priority on teaching
  • Demonstrated interest in ongoing professional development in pedagogy, including online delivery and technology in the classroom
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population and to recruit art students, including nontraditional students
  • Understanding of community college mission & philosophy
  • Demonstrated interest in fulfilling typical service obligations of a faculty member
Preferred Qualifications (optional)
  • Community college teaching experience in studio art
  • Experience with online instruction and Quality Matters
