Assistant Director of University Communications
Job description
The Assistant Director of Strategic Communications and Marketing for the Grambling State University Office of University Communications is a vital member of the advancement team. The Assistant Director supports all University branding, communications, and marketing activities by providing managerial support to the Office of Strategic Communications and Marketing. This position will work with cross-campus teams to translate project objectives into comprehensive external relations, marketing, and digital engagement deliverables.
- Marketing Management - Use findings from industry standards, trends, and best practices to establish and achieve advertising goals that feed the recruitment funnel and improve institutional visibility.
- Project Development and Collaboration –Works with key internal and external stakeholders to curate, promote and share content with intended publics in print and online.
- Media Relations Support – Promote and share content via local, state, and regional news, develop story ideas for the editorial calendar, help with crisis communications and press release dissemination to media and the online newsroom, and provide support in responding to media inquiries.
- Internal Communications Management – Bolster engagement and track metrics for platforms and processes that provide information to the campus community
- Thought Leadership Development – Assist with curation and development of subject matter experts bureau, media training, and brand ambassador support.
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, communications, English, writing, public relations, or related discipline from an accredited university or college or equivalent work experience.
- 5 years of relevant work experience in the areas of communications, marketing, project management, or public relations
- 3 years of experience in internal/strategic communications management and development
- Proficiency in project management
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent news and editorial judgment
- Familiarity working within online/website content management systems
- Expert proficiency with MS Office suite of tools (e.g. PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
- Demonstrated success in brand journalism and digital storytelling, in ways that engage and capture the attention of the target audience
- Demonstrated success working in a team environment and as a supervisor
- Proficient with Associated Press style
- Ability to produce high-volume, high-quality work in a rapidly changing environment
