Job Description:

The Assistant Director of Multicultural Affairs supports the daily operations, planning and needs of Multicultural Affairs, including the Multicultural Center. The role leads underrepresented mentoring and student success initiatives and supports in tracking and analyzing Multicultural Center engagement data.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead in the development and implementation of processes that measure student engagement with Multicultural Center initiatives.
  • Lead in the development and implementation of Multicultural Affairs mentoring and student success initiatives.
  • Assist the Executive Director of Multicultural Affairs in assessing underrepresented student needs.
  • Assist with conducting leadership development and inclusive excellence education and development for students.
  • Support, mentor, and guide students who engage with the Multicultural Center.
  • Provide advisement and support to identity-based clubs and organizations.
  • Engage in interdepartmental collaborations within and external to the OIE.
  • Assist with event and program planning and implementation for the Multicultural Center and OIE.
  • Assist the Executive Director with managing administrative needs, including but not limited to:
    • Budget management, procuring items for events and office needs, event calendar/dashboard management, website updates, etc.
  • Supervise graduate assistants.
  • Manage the supervision of work study students, who are directly supervised by a graduate assistant who reports to this role.
  • Supervise marketing and promotion of Multicultural Center and other OIE initiatives, which are directly facilitated by respective graduate assistant(s).
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

Knowledge and Skills Needed:

  • Bachelor's Degree required and at least 3 years of experience in Multicultural Affairs or related functions.
  • Experience in working with diverse students, faculty, staff, other university constituents, and external organizations.
  • Enhanced understanding of various diversity competencies.
  • Strong background in developing students in areas of personal and professional development, diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and social justice.
  • Experience with managing budgets and other administrative tasks.
  • Experience with planning and implementing programs and initiatives.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including some nights and weekends.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience with mentoring and student success initiatives for underrepresented students.
  • Experience with supervising and leading teams.
  • Experience in collecting, organizing, and assessing data.
