The role

Applications are welcomed for the role of Assessment & Testing Technical Developer to join a professional, dynamic and forward-thinking group of technical developers within our Product Management team.

The CITB Product Management Team is responsible for many of the CITB key products, ensuring they are aligned to industry needs, have maximum impact, and continue to develop as the industry and technologies evolve. These products include a successful suite of health & safety courses, examinations, accompanying publications and health and safety tests. These products are aimed at operatives through to senior managers, supporting them with the skills needed to progress through the industry.

The Assessment & Testing Developer is responsible for developing and maintaining new and existing assessments within CITB’s health and safety training and examination portfolio of materials for the construction industry.

The successful candidate will create robust assessment strategies to evaluate the effectiveness of learning content to validate that the learner has attained the desired learning outcomes. The role is supported by a dedicated project team.

Using your expertise, you will create and deliver suitable assessments of learning outcomes focusing on reliability, validity and suitability, always ensuring that they meet the requirements of CITB’s strategic objectives, the needs of the construction industry and relevant legislative/ regulatory requirements.

Collaboration with other subject matter experts, external stakeholders, including suppliers and developers plus industry experts is a key part of the role to constantly create, review, and update the suite of Health & safety training products.

This role would be suitable for someone with a proven track record in assessment in an adult/further education learning environment who can evidence collaboration with multiple internal and external stakeholders. A construction industry background is not essential.

Key activities

You will:

  • manage, direct and report on all assessment strategies, sharing recommendations for enhancing the effectiveness of existing products and developing new ones to inform the strategic development of CITB products portfolio for suitability, and enhancement in line with identified industry needs
  • collaborate with external stakeholders in industry to inform product development and maintain effective communications and working relationships with the Product Development Team, CITB and other associated groups and bodies.
  • use your subject matter expertise to design and develop compelling assessment materials that enhance the learning experience using a variety of proven learning styles, methods and approaches to ensure information is accurate, up to date and fit for purpose
  • progress work packages to agreed deadlines as part of an active team, utilising research and feedback methods
  • manage actively all question banks for multiple assessments, to ensure their validity and currency, and carry out reliable gap analysis
  • test and quality assure the validity, reliability and effectiveness of our products through governance of the assessment material produced
  • give technical advice in learning development projects and innovative course assessments that strengthens the transfer and retention of skills and knowledge
  • continue your professional development, so that you remain a subject matter expert, keeping abreast of all relevant developments in course design and assessment techniques, legislation, technology, and best practice.

About you

Key attributes for this role.

  • Strong, current and accurate understanding of using assessment best practice including Bloom’s Taxonomy and the four principles of assessment evidenced in recent employment
  • A thorough understanding of assessment supported by evidence to include: assessment proposals, data analysis and designing of relevant assessment material that correlate to delivery methods
  • Demonstrable experience of collaborating with industry stakeholders, subject matter experts, product managers, and course design specialists to identify requirements, create assessments including supporting material and stakeholder management evidenced from recent employment history
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills to engage with a range of stakeholders internally and externally, along with the ability to demonstrate highly developed written and verbal skills.
  • Experience of using assessment management frameworks and systems.
  • You own your continuous professional development so that you remain a current subject matter expert, keeping abreast of all relevant developments in legislation, technology, and best practice
  • You can communicate effectively at all levels both internally and with external stakeholders
  • You hold a PGCA Postgraduate Certificate in Assessment or equivalent.
