Asphalt Crew Member (Laborers and Operators)
Job description
At Commercial Paving Company, we perform a range of private, commercial and municipal work. We are currently seeking Asphalt Crew Members to join our team for the 2023 paving season.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- General laborer duties associated with asphalt paving, patching or prep crews (example: layout, shoveling, raking, wheelbarrowing, etc.).
- Operate necessary equipment relating to prepping and placing of asphalt (example: power tools, cut off saw, plate tamp, jackhammer, etc.).
- Performs daily inspection and maintenance and ensures equipment is in safe, proper working order. Reports to Supervisors when maintenance or repairs are needed.
- Assisting and signaling trucks for alignment and movement of materials.
- Flagging for traffic control and/or placement and moving various traffic control devices.
- Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
- Responsible for producing a high-quality finished appearance of the placed product.
- Clean up of equipment and site as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Work sites are primarily in the Capital District, with some intermittent projects ranging from Newburg to Canadian border and Utica, West to the Vermont, Massachusetts and Connecticut borders.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Willing to work extended hours, including night and weekend work.
- Full range of body motion including heavy lifting, handling and operating small tools, manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
- Strong work ethic with attention to detail.
- MUST have a valid drivers license and reliable transportation to and from job sites for consistent ability to show up for work on time and every day as scheduled.
- OSHA-10 Construction safety card, preferred.
- Previous paving experience, preferred.

- Asphalt: 1 year (Preferred)
