The ACE PATH Tucson Middle School Coordinator role primarilary serves to offer direct, relational preparation and support to the 6th - 8th grade students served by PATH Tucson. First and foremost, this position is a part of a team effort to dismantle the opportunity gap as experienced by our students and partner with schools and families to help children on their journeys toward college and heaven. The majority being potential first generation college graduates. During the school year the PATH Tucson Middle School Coordinator will plan, prep, and teach a weekly course called PATH Persistence Class in which they'll facilitate development of hard and soft skills necessary on the educational journey through college including but not limited to executive functioning skills, social-emotional skills, and high school/college choice preparation. This will amount to 9 classes each week between our two partner schools. Outside of PATH Persistence Class, the role will involve other efforts and events to get to know the students, families, and greater school community in addition to connections with outside resources and supports that could be beneficial to the students. The PATH Tucson Middle School Coordinator also takes on the role of directing the PATH Rising Summer Program- a summer camp/summer school hybrid that employs current college undergraduates as intern teachers. The middle school coordinator guides the recruitment, selection, and preparation of these interns and operates in a role akin to that of a school principal for the summer program, directly supervising two deans who in turn supervise instructional coaches who guide the growth and development of the interns serving our middle school students. In the school year and summer the middle school coordinator will be invited to help plan and/or chaperone various college exposure and enrichment field trips locally and nationally as well. Throughout all of these movements, logging data on student performance and disposition will be integral.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Direct coaching, which includes social-emotional, pastoral, and academic teaching in PATH Persistence Class and counseling and data logging & analysis for college students in one-on-one and group formats
- Coordinating the PATH Rising Summer Program (essentially acting as the principal of our summer program for middle school students)
- PATH Persistence Class & Rising Summer program building (networking with schools, creating calendars of work flow, improving scope & sequence)
- Presence and support at PATH Tucson middle and high school programming
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree- Education, Social Work, Counseling or similar /related field
- 1-2 years of experience
- The candidate must exhibit zeal, coachability, persistence, servant leadership, and hunger for spiritual growth in addition to employing a growth mindset and anti-racist beliefs.
- We are looking for someone who has training and experience working with students in vulnerable populations and/or students from communities who have historically been under-represented in the population of college graduates. The role requires someone who is flexible, takes initiative, and communicates clearly.
- S/he must have demonstrated an ability to connect meaningfully with people of multiple ages and in a variety of roles.
- Ability to converse and write in Spanish is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
Teaching Licensure/Certification is preferred but not required. Membership with NACAC (National Association for College Admission Counseling) is also preferred but not required. Additionally, the candidate must be able and willing to live in Tucson, AZ and to travel. The ability to speak and understand Spanish is also preferred but not required.
