Agency Information:

The Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) currently has a vacancy for an unclassified Accountant, Fiscal Division, in the Topeka location. The KCC is a multi-faceted agency responsible for regulating public utilities including electric, natural gas, telecommunication and water companies as well as motor carriers, oil and gas pipelines and oil and gas natural production activities. The Commission’s headquarters is in Topeka with the central Conservation office in Wichita and four Conservation district offices located in Dodge City, Wichita, Chanute and Hays.

Position Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Process various agency payment vouchers, initiating inter-fund payments and journal entries.
  • Verify the accuracy of funding and project information.
  • Verify all original documents and receipts for expenses incurred within the compliance guidelines of the State of Kansas, which include, meal expenses, lodging expenses, transportation expenses, airfare and car rental for out-of-state, in-state and international travel for the Agency.
  • Analyze, reconcile, and audit the expenses for accuracy and assigns appropriate funding.
  • Works directly with staff on discrepancies and ensures appropriate receipts and documentation are obtained as required by the Travel Policy & Procedure Manual.
  • Ensures proper completion of all travel documentation.
  • Process and invoice quarterly assessments.


Qualifications

Licensing & Certification:
  • Valid Driver’s License
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of experience in professional accounting/auditing work. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationship: communicate effectively, verbally and in writing with fellow employees and public.
  • Listen, comprehend and respond via phone, email or in person.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft software.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field.
