Ordinary Sea Person (OS)
Pay is comprised of a base hourly rate plus overtime and vacation benefits. Based on a historical average 10-hour day, an OS can expect to make approximately $270 per day. This amount can fluctuate with more or less hours worked.
Some of the duties performed by an Ordinary Sea Person are listed below:
- Work towards able bodied sea person certification.
- Perform lookout duty.
- Handle mooring cables and soft lines to secure the vessel at berth when required.
- Load and unload supplies and provisions on board as required.
- Clean, sanitize, and perform basic maintenance on ship.
- Learn to operate and maintain deck winches, windlasses, and other equipment proficiently.
- Identify and remove rust accumulations.
- Refinish affected areas with sealants, primers, and paints to slow the oxidation process.
- Prep and paint decks and structure inside and out as assigned.
- Shovel, sweep, and wash decks and cargo holds as assigned.
- Demonstrate marlinspike seamanship skills.
- Any other duties as directed by the Captain or Mate on Watch.
Able Sea Person (AB)
Pay is comprised of a base hourly rate plus overtime and vacation benefits. Based on a historical average 10-hour day, an AB can expect to make approximately $320 per day. This amount can fluctuate with more or less hours worked.
An example of duties performed by an Able Sea Person (AB) are listed below:
- Stand lookout and security watches when assigned.
- Perform general maintenance, repair, sanitation and upkeep of material, equipment, and areas around the vessel.
- Maintain ship's metal structures by chipping, scraping, cleaning, priming, and painting.
- Clean and maintain the hull, decks, superstructure, and cargo gear.
- Perform maintenance on fire, lifesaving, and emergency gear as required.
- Be able to use and operate emergency, fire, lifesaving, and safety equipment proficiently.
- Operate deck machinery, such as the windlass or winches while mooring or unmooring and operate cargo gear.
- Shovel, sweep, and wash decks and cargo holds as assigned.
- Demonstrate marlinspike seamanship skills.
- Handle mooring cables and soft lines to secure the vessel at berth when required.
- Load and unload supplies and provisions on board as required.
- Supervise and mentor new crewmembers and ordinary sea persons.
- Any other duties as directed by the Captain or Mate on Watch.

Schedule Options:
- Work hours up to an average of 12 hours per day
- Holiday Pay
- 28 days on- 14 days off
