This is an AmeriCorps national service position. It is contingent on funding and open until filled. As a Jesuit, Catholic, and humanistic institution, Gonzaga University is called to care for the planet and be a responsible steward of our fiscal, human, and earthly resources. Along with Spokane Community Colleges, we are one of several institutions of secondary education in the City of Spokane and Spokane County. Following the best sustainability practices of other higher education institutions, an AmeriCorps member will continue to lead an Employee Sustainability Ambassadors Program (ESA), a Student Sustainability Leadership Program (SSLP), and a Resilience Academy (RA) for members of the community in order to educate and engage students, employees, and community members to motivate and work with others on local efforts to address aggressive global goals to care for the planet. The three programs will parallel each other in content and purpose over the spring of each program year. Participants of the ESA and RA will serve as mentors for campus and community sustainability projects completed by participants of the SSLP. Participants in the ESA and RA will serve as community educators for the City of Spokane Sustainability Action planning process
Member Duties : Through direct service with three participation modes, the AmeriCorps member will serve the community through four steps: Step 1: Organize an outreach and marketing campaign to educate the campus and Spokane community about this exciting new opportunity for involvement. Step 2: Plan and execute an application process for students, employees, and community members interested in participating in the program. Step 3: Plan intensive programs focused on themes such as waste, energy, water, food/agriculture, and environmental justice. This programming may involve bringing in experts from within the Spokane and Gonzaga communities. Step 4: Develop a specific listserv to grow a network of leaders and ambassadors to ensure that all past program participants remain updated on events and new educational and engagement opportunities. Step 5: Coordinate an annual check-in event (virtual or in person) with current and past participants.
