Salary: CL 26 ($52,377 - $85,119)

The Audio/Visual Specialist is a member of the Information Technology Shared Services Team for the Southern District of Ohio which is comprised of the District Court, Clerk’s Office, Probation, and Pretrial Services Office. The incumbent provides technical and administrative support of the court’s audio-visual and telecommunications systems, including, but not limited to digital recording, video evidence, video projection, video teleconference, telephone, and telecommunications systems for Judges and Judicial Staff, Clerk’s Office, Probation, and Pretrial Services. The incumbent reports to the Information Technology Supervisor. Occasional travel is required. Typical work hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

ABOUT THE SOUTHERN DISTRICT OF OHIO:

The Southern District of Ohio covers a broad geographic area encompassing forty-eight urban and rural counties from an imaginary line just north of Columbus south to the Ohio River. The District is comprised of over 260 individuals including twenty-seven Judicial Officers, Chambers Staff, the Clerk’s Office staff, the U.S. Probation Office’s staff and U.S. Pretrial Services Office’s staff; located in the Cincinnati, Columbus, and Dayton Courthouses.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversee the day to day operation of applicable audio/visual/teleconferencing technology used in the court to ensure reliable and effective operation.

Troubleshoot audio/visual/teleconferencing equipment at a hardware level.

Determine requirements and oversee all audio/visual or telecommunication technology projects. Advise management in all areas of audio/visual and telecommunication needs, objectives, and capabilities, including anticipation of future requirements and potential problems.

Execute implementation plans approved by the manager and adopted by the court unit executives for courtrooms, conference rooms, and all other audio/visual needs and systems.

Establish and provide hands-on training regarding equipment and system use and capabilities. Provide end-user technical training to court staff and outside parties.

Research and evaluate suppliers based on specific requisites. Research products and equipment. Prepare product/equipment specifications.

Review requests for equipment and supplies, pertaining to audio visual needs, discuss and make recommendations to Information Technology Director regarding equipment. Keep appraised and up to date of new technology and electronic equipment, as well as potential uses.

Maintain equipment inventories according to policy.

Coordinate warranty work, maintenance agreements, and timely repair of equipment for all vendor contracts covering audio/visual and telecommunications equipment.

Participate in other Information Technology responsibilities and initiatives as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written), with an ability to listen and quickly discern customer needs and priorities. Time management skills, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while also meeting deadlines. Accuracy and attention to detail are exceptionally important. Excellent collaboration skills with IT and other court staff. A candidate who demonstrates initiative and an eagerness to learn and take on new challenges will be especially appealing.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

Knowledge of the configuration, administration, and maintenance of audio/visual and telecommunications systems. Extensive knowledge in configuring audio/visual components and control systems. Knowledge of capabilities, limitations, and functional applications of audio/visual and their interactions with other systems. Knowledge in the use of automated systems and equipment, including word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications, as well as financial systems. Skill in coordinating audio/visual projects with judges, management, and end-users. Ability to provide direction and training to users. Skill in analyzing audio/visual needs and product requirement. Skill in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement viable solutions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field from an accredited college or university. Technical certifications. Experience with recent versions of software including Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Windows 7/8, Microsoft Office 2010/2013, Windows Server, Adobe Acrobat, Apple desktop operating systems and software, and Apple iOS mobile devices. Familiarity with Linux operating environments a plus.
