General Information & Responsibilities
Provides career exploration, job skills, life skills, and academic services for youth in the Stark County Youth Program.
Description of Duties
DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
a. Recruits prospective participants.
b. Coordinates academics plans with Adult Education and College staff.
c. Conducts intake interviews to explain the program and the certification process.
d. Assists youth and their families in completing certification.
e. Assists youth in developing an individualized educational/career plan that identifies strengths and barriers.
f. Provides career advisement, career exploration, life skills training, short-term crisis intervention, information and referrals as appropriate.
g. Coordinates job placement activities with faculty, College programs, and placement organizations.
h. Conducts pre-employment referral interviews to assess qualifications based on education, experience, ability, aptitude, and other criteria.
i. Assists participants with resume development.
j. Provides guidance in job seeking and retention.
k. Refers appropriate participants to job openings obtained through employer contacts.
l. Develops relationships with employers to increase job leads; develops work-site mentors and institutes job shadowing.
m. Develops and/or facilitates workshops.
n. Maintains participant records in computerized database and tracks participants to ensure timely and accurate reporting as required by funding sources.
o. Establishes and maintains effective relationships with community agencies.

PRINCIPAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
a. Works with the Coordinator of the Community Education Center.
b. Works with students from varied social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
c. Works directly with Stark County Youth program partners, parents, Adult Education staff and other employees.
d. Maintains professional contact with social service agencies, probation offices, and community organizations.
Education & Experience
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.)
a. Bachelor’s degree required. Major in education or human services field preferred.
b. Minimum of one-year paid work experience required.
c. Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office required.
d. Ability to work with individuals with varying educational, social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds required.
e. Ability to performs job duties during evening or off hours as required. (moved from description of essential duties above)
f. Ability to exercise independent judgment and maintain confidentiality required.
g. Secondary teaching certification preferred.
h. Valid driver’s license required.

As a result, anyone entering Black Hawk College campus locations who are not fully vaccinated will no longer be required to submit to weekly COVID-19 compliance testing.
