LOCATION: JOHN H. STROGER, JR. HOSPITAL
DEPARTMENT: RADIOLOGY
SHIFT: 8AM-4PM

Starting salary is commensurate with years of experience

Job Summary

Under supervision of the Technical Supervisor of the Department of Radiology responsible and accountable for learning and adhering to hospital policies and procedures, patient care activities, care of the environment, stocking of supplies and equipment within the scope of training and other duties as assigned.


Typical Duties

  • Performs patient care activities and transport patients to designated areas in the most efficient, safe and timely manner
  • Assists patients to and from mode of transportation, on and off exam tables
  • Ensures that all appropriate records and equipment accompany patients to designated area
  • Sets up and maintains transportation equipment including wheelchairs, stretchers, and carts
  • Responds to emergency transportation requests with minimal loss of time
  • Secures the safety of patient during transporting by using appropriate devices of equipment.
  • Provides general patient care and comfort
  • Recognizes and responds to priorities in patient care
  • Assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment. Ensures procedure rooms are clean and in proper order. Reports equipment that is out of order. Cleans equipment as assigned
  • Check supplies, prepares list for ordering, and distributes linens and supplies
  • Keeps accurate count of supplies and informs management of par levels
  • Rotate sterile supplies according to department procedures, keep supplies, utility and supply room neat and orderly
  • Adapts to change in workload or patient assignment
  • Washes hands before and after each patient contact. Adheres to and practices infection control techniques
  • May assist with clerical duties
  • Assists Radiologist and Radiology Techs

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One (1) year of experience as an X-Ray Technician Aide or patient care experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of patient care experience

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

  • Knowledge of hospital physical layout, use of proper body mechanics in order to prevent injuries
  • Ability to communicate and work with a variety of patients and health care workers
  • Successful completion of three months on the job orientation program
  • Able to do heavy lifting, carrying, pulling, pushing of 50 pounds and over, eight (8) hours daily
  • Able to sustain long period of time, standing, sitting, bending and moving

Physical and Environmental Demands

This position is functioning within a healthcare environment. The incumbent is responsible for adherence to all hospital and department specific safety requirements. This includes but is not limited to the following policies and procedures: complying with Personal Protective Equipment requirements, hand washing and sanitizing practices, complying with department specific engineering and work practice controls and any other work area safety precautions as specified by hospital wide policy and departmental procedures.

Original credentialing documents must be presented at time of interview.
