Under the supervision of the Water Production Maintenance Manager, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs water production mechanical, electrical and control systems equipment including performing preventive and predictive maintenance tasks and other related duties as assigned. Is on call on a rotational basis a week at a time for emergency work as required.

This position works Monday through Friday 3:00pm to 11:30pm.

The selection process for this opening will include two mechanical evaluation assessments.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and install the following DMWW Water Production systems and equipment per written instruction, verbal instruction, blueprints, and technical drawings.Mechanical systems including pumps, valves, actuators, chemical feeders, and all other associated Water Production equipment.

Plumbing systems per State of Iowa Plumbing Code.Heating, ventilating systems, and cooling.

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and assist in installation of electrical and control systems per the National Electrical Code up to 1,000 volts.
  • Assist with planning, work and safety coordination for preventative maintenance, repairs, or switching of medium voltage electrical equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, inspections, data gathering, equipment labeling, normal, and emergency maintenance on all DMWW Water Production equipment.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair water production analytical equipment.
  • As instructed by Supervision, works with water production employees to aid in maintenance activities including training, maintaining, diagnosing repairs of equipment and other maintenance activities.
  • Operates mobile cranes, overhead crane, hoist, and forklifts.
  • Performs Signal and rigging tasks for crane operation.
  • Operates, maintains and repairs DMWW Water Production maintenance shop equipment including but not limited to a drill press, grinders, bands saw, welder, and torches for repairs and fabrication.
  • Maintains and repairs DMWW Water Production maintenance tools.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, and orderly work area. Completes safety tailgates for work tasks. Completes safety discussions with DMWW staff. Wears appropriate safety PPE and follows safe work practices per OSHA, NEC, NFPA 70, NFPA 70E and other safety standards.
  • Loads and unloads heavy equipment from trucks.
  • Delivers and unload DMWW Water Production chemicals.
  • Serves as a Hazardous Material First Responder.
  • Serves on-call duty week, available 24/7 to respond in a timely manner to overtime work for water production emergent tasks. May be asked to work various shift schedules for additional staffing requirements, emergent tasks, and training needs, including when off duty if needed. Required to carry an active cell phone and must live within 1 hour of the Fleur Water Treatment Plant.
  • Responds to emergent tasks when off-duty as needed.
  • May be required to work extended shifts for emergent tasks.
  • May be asked to work various shift schedules for additional staffing requirements, emergent tasks, and training needs.
  • Prepares and completes daily; time sheets, work orders, and required reports.
  • Receives, interprets, and responds to telephone, two-way radio, and other communications devices for information on routine and emergency situations.
  • Uses maintenance management, time keeping, e-mail, electronic calendar, and other computer software programs.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Associates degree in Industrial Electro-Mechanical Technology or similar or,
  • DMWW recognized Department of Labor Apprenticeship program in Mechanical and Plumbing Systems, HVAC, Electrical, or Plumbing with corresponding State of Iowa licensure may substitute for Associates degree.

Experience:

  • 5 years’ full time Industrial or Water-Wastewater maintenance experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing all of the following, electrical systems, control systems, mechanical systems, pumps, rotating machinery, pneumatics, hydraulics, and other related equipment. An additional 2 years of experience may substitute for minimum education requirements.

Or

  • 5 years’ full time DMWW Water Production Maintenance Mechanic, Maintenance Basin Crew Leader, or 10 years Water Production Specialist experience and DMWW approved Industrial Maintenance Technical Multi-Craft Training Certificate at time of application may substitute for minimum education qualifications.

Or

  • 10 years’ full time DMWW Water Production Maintenance Mechanic, Maintenance Basin Crew Leader, or 20 years Water Production Specialist experience and completion of minimum required DMWW approve Multi-Craft Training courses may substitute for minimum education qualifications. Multi-Craft Training courses to be schedule after job offer acceptance, completion of courses within 90 days is a requirement of the position.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid Iowa Driver’s License with a good driving record.
  • Iowa Class A CDL with Air Brakes License within 90 days and hazardous material endorsement within 6 months of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • State of Iowa DNR Operator Certification – Grade I
