The City of Paso Robles is seeking a Water Maintenance Specialist I/II to perform a variety of semi-skilled work in the installation, modification, maintenance, repair, and operation of municipal water supply and distribution systems. The successful candidate will be a dependable team player who has a positive attitude and desire to make a difference in the quality of life for the community of Paso Robles. Wage Ranges: Water Maintenance Specialist I: $1,983.39 - $2,517.20 biweekly | $24.79 - $31.47 per hourWater Maintenance Specialist II: $2,278.24 - $2,891.28 biweekly | $28.48 - $36.14 per hourDistinguishing Characteristics Maintenance Specialist I is the entry-level in this class series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents with basic maintenance experience learn City facilities, use of tools and equipment and a wide variety of practices and procedures. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied and are performed with greater independence. Incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining the knowledge, skills, and experience, and demonstrating the ability to perform the work of the higher-level class.Maintenance Specialist II is the experienced journey level in this class series capable of performing a wide variety of work to ensure that the City facilities and infrastructure are maintained in a safe and effective working condition. Responsibilities include performing all operational and maintenance activities in the assigned area.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Perform all aspects and functions of construction, maintenance, and emergency repair of water distribution system: maintain and repair pump stations; install, maintain, and repair water mains, pressure regulators, service lines, fire hydrants, and valvesRespond to water related emergencies such as service leaks and main breaks; assess situation, determine proper action, perform necessary repair work to resolve problems, or request appropriate equipment/workers needed to resolve problemsOperate and maintain a variety of automotive and specialized equipment including backhoe, tractor, vacuum excavator, compressor, hydraulic valve operator, loader, dump trucks, pumps, and other various hydraulic systemsPerform routine preventive maintenance and repair of water production and water distribution facilities, including wells, booster pumps, water reservoirs and tanks, chemical systems, water quality monitors, and water metersInterpret and make required replacement/adjustments of specialized equipment and instruments such as pressure transducers, recorders, gauges, meters, charts, and dialsExcavate City streets and easementsRead and install water metersOperate power and hand tools such as tamper, jackhammer, electric tools, tapping machines, welders, plasma cutter, and other tools as requiredPerform other duties as assignedMust be available for regular standby assignments (be ready to respond/arrive to calls for service within 30 minutes) and work emergency overtime as required and in accordance with existing Memorandum of Understanding. Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions and with exposure to traffic, fumes, odors, dust and potentially hazardous chemicals and conditions.
