Job description

The Waitstaff are responsible for the set-up, service, and cleanliness of the main dining room during the meal periods. Their duties will also include side duties which are extra duties assigned to each section in the dining room on a daily basis, and other duties as directed.

  • Prepares the dining room for meal service daily by setting tables, completing pre-service duties, and checking their assigned sections for cleanliness prior to service each day.
  • Assists the host/hostess with the removal of walkers from their section as residents are seated.
  • Takes food orders from the residents and communicates these orders in a proper manner to the kitchen staff for preparation.
  • Serves food in the appropriate manner to the residents.
  • Maintains their assigned section in a clean, neat, and sanitary manner at all times. Including Chairs, tables, floors, wait station areas, etc.
  • Cleans and sanitizes table tops and chairs in their section, and makes sure that all table bases are wiped each day.
  • Resets the tables in the appropriate manner and vacuums the floor in their section each day.
  • Completes their assigned post service duties in their entirety each day, and checks with the host/hostess prior to clocking out to be sure everything was completed satisfactorily.
  • Must be able to accept direction and constructive criticism.
  • Must be able to work calmly and effectively under pressure.
  • Must have some knowledge and understanding of safety, sanitation, and safe food handling procedures.
  • Interacts cooperatively and positively with residents, families, visitors, and other staff.
  • Maintains the confidentiality and rights of residents, family, employee, and facility information.
  • Must be able to work closely with others in a team environment.
  • Must have a commitment to high quality products and service.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to transport 50 pounds on occasion, and up to 35 pounds regularly.
  • Will be required to attend training sessions, staff meetings, and other work related functions as needed.
  • May be required to work weekends and holidays as needed for coverage.
  • Will perform additional tasks, although not detailed, as requested by the Food Service Director, Assistant Food Service Director, or the Community Director at any time.
