General Definition of Work
Wastewater
Performs semiskilled work performing various wastewater plant operations, operating assigned machinery and equipment, performing preventive maintenance and repairs, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the assigned supervisor.
The ideal candidate will be trustworthy, organized, reliable, and self-motivated. They must
be a team player who has the ability to multitask, accept direction well, and be adaptable.
They will have experience in plumbing, construction, welding/fabrication or a related field.
Good customer service and communication skills are strongly desired. Ideally, they will
have the aptitude to work around sewage pumping stations and operate heavy
equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or GED and moderate experience in plant operations and preventative
maintenance and repairs, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- SPECIAL NOTE:
Candidate that possesses an Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Grade I Wastewater Collection or Treatment System Operator Certification would be considered a Utility Worker I at the time of hire. Incumbent works outdoors and is exposed to extreme temperatures, confined spaces, and traffic. May require the use of a respirator. May be subject to call back. Primary assignment will be in wastewater collections.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Arizona Commercial Driver License Class A with a Tanker Endorsement within six (6) months of employment. $1.00/hr stipend upon obtaining Arizona Commercial Driver License Class A with a Tanker Endorsement.
National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) training based on assignment.
Must meet and maintain all training and education requirements for the position.
Positions may also require one (1) or more of the following certifications depending on assignment:
Confined Space/Trenching and Shoring Certification.
Closed Circuit Television Certification.
Forklift Certification.
Flagger's Certifications.
Hazardous Materials Certification
NCCO Crane Operator Certification.

All positions within the City are required to submit to a pre-employment drug test. The City reserves the right to consider only the most highly qualified applicants. The succeeding examination processes may be required: training and experience, testing, panel interview, employment eligibility verification (EEV) requirements, personnel evaluation profile (PEP), polygraph test, background investigation and alcohol/drug screening test. Appointment subject to successful background investigation and City paid post-employment medical examination after offer of employment has been made.
