SUMMARY
The Urology PA/NP will assist Munson Urology physicians to improve office efficiency, consultation, follow up availability, and inpatient care. The PA/NP performs his/her functions based on his/her personal experience and professional judgment and (1) in discussion with the physician; (2) with knowledge of physician preference; (3) within written policies of this institution and (4) within evidenced based guidelines as outlined by the AUA, MUSIC, NCCN or other applicable organizational standards.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Currently licensed as a Physician Assistant or as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan and is board certified.
- Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from an ARC-PA (Accreditation Review Commission on Education for Physician Assistants) accredited institution or a Master’s degree in Nursing.
- Certification by the AAPA (American Academy of Physician Assistants) is required for Physician Assistants.
- Candidate must apply for and be granted appropriate clinical privileges through MMC’s normal credentialing processes before rendering services
- Experience in the clinical area in which application has been made is desirable
- Current BCLS certification is required.
- Maintains certification as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.
- Is a self-directed professional with the ability to make independent judgments in providing direct patient care, educating and supervising clinical staff, and coordinating programs.
- Demonstrates computer skills and willingness to learn necessary health IT applications that promote maximum clinical efficiency.
ORGANIZATION
- As a physician-dependent practitioner, works in collaboration with and receives clinical direction from the Urologists at Bay Area Urology Associates, PC.
- Reports to the Practice Manager at Bay Area Urology Associates, PC.
SPECIFIC DUTIES

- Promotes personal and patient safety.
- Uses effective customer service/interpersonal skills at all times.
- Works as a member of the clinical team to promote, support and provide management of urologic medical care to patients.
- Works within the parameters of the treatment plan established by the urologists. Evaluates and revises the plan of care at regularly scheduled office visits utilizing sound clinical judgment based on assessment of physical, psychological, emotional, societal and environmental needs of the clients.
- Manages patient care in the outpatient setting under direct supervision of the Urology physicians, performing comprehensive history and physical examinations, ordering appropriate lab and radiographic studies, interpreting lab and x-ray results, performing (or be willing to learn to perform) procedures, managing urology medications, making treatment decisions, and determining appropriate follow up.
- May performs in-office urologic procedures, such as cystoscopy.
- Assists with inpatient consultations and dictation of inpatient history & physicals, as well as follow up notes.
- Completes appropriate documentation of all evaluations, care, and services rendered in the electronic medical record in order to accurately reflect services in the patient record and to ensure appropriateness of billing.
- Communicates with referring or primary care physicians regarding patient care and treatment.
- Responds to telephone inquiries from clinic patients and provides appropriate medical care and/or counseling.
- Consults with urology physicians in delivery of medical care. May also consult with or refer clients to other disciplines.
- Assists individuals to assume responsibility for the prevention of illness and the promotion of health maintenance and/or restoration of health.
- Adheres to the Evaluation and Management Documentation Requirements and accurately assigns the appropriate E&M level charge. (Accuracy will be monitored by periodic, random chart review.)
- Adheres to Joint Commission and other regulatory agency requirements for documentation, patient care, competency and environment of care issues.
- Observes the Munson Healthcare mid level provider prescriptive authority guidelines.
- Maintains knowledge of current medical trends and ongoing professional development in pertinent medical fields.
- Participates in and / or serves as a resource for medical, nursing, and community education programs.
- Meets department productivity requirements. Recognizes and understands the need for full daily schedules. Independently monitors own daily appointment schedule and works in conjunction with other staff members to fill open appointment times.
- Responds to medical emergencies as required as a mid-level provider
- Participates actively in team conferences, department staff meetings and department special projects. May be asked to participate in on-site and off-site educational programs.
- Manages multiple tasks in a busy clinical environment.
- Serves as a resource for department staff and recognizes the importance of working as a team.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
