PAY RANGE: $39,861-$44,838

JOB SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Assistant Superintendent, the Safety and Security Manager will initiate, research, plan, and implement all activities related to enhancing the safety and security of students, staff, and the public. Coordinate and oversee the District’s researched based best-practices, a well-trained workforce, and collaborative relationships with key stakeholders and community partners including the law enforcement and emergency management agencies that serve the District. The overall outcome is to develop a best practices program that continually enhances the District’s safety and security presence to promote the general welfare and support teaching and learning while minimizing risk and liability.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:
- Associate Degree in business, health science, occupational/industrial safety, criminal justice, emergency management or related field AND,
- Two (2) years of recent successful experience in public administration and/or emergency management, security management, workplace or school safety, or other applicable fields.
- Other qualifying experience and certification may substitute for education and experience.
- First Aid, CPR, and AED certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
- Valid Washington State driver’s license and proof of current insurance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Depending upon individual assignment, the Safety and Security Manager performs all or a combination of several of the following duties. This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.
- Provides leadership for District-wide Safety and Security; implements departmental goals and objectives consistent with the District’s Strategic Priorities, District Policies, and State and Federal laws; researches best practices, developing and maintaining a Safety and Security Operations Manual for procedures and protocols; works collaboratively with department staff for the purpose of assisting with the District’s Safety and Security Plan.
- Oversees district and building safety committees to ensure employees are trained and informed of safety issues and safety plans.
- Investigates, responds to, and recommends corrective action regarding safety deficiency concerns involving student, staff, and public safety. Participates in reviewing and training safe work practices.
- Prepares reports, coordinates, and maintains appropriate records pertaining to the position.
- Works with district administrators and staff to implement safety plans for schools, departments, and the district.
- Develops and facilitates training of district employees in Emergency Response Procedures using the Incident Command System; coordinates and directs various emergency response activities, including but not limited to facilitation of the district’s Emergency Operations Center.
- Serves as the District’s emergency response liaison with local and regional emergency response agencies; coordinates district plans and efforts with local and regional emergency response agencies; researches and develops local hazard analysis information; develops and facilitates staff, student, and school community informational opportunities regarding the district’s all-hazard response emergency preparedness efforts.
- Participates in safety-related meetings, workshops and seminars; consults with regulatory agencies to maintain knowledge of current safety related developments and requirements; communicates information to affected parties.
- Advises district leadership on impact of law/standard changes related to state, local, and federal employee safety; remains current on new regulations, code requirements, and solutions to problems by reviewing professional journals/literature and attending relevant training classes/seminars.
