This position can be based out of our Springfield, MN office or Danube, MN.

Position Objective: The Transportation Manager will lead the efficient transportation of commodities and products for Farmward Cooperative.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Dispatch Farmward drivers/trucks and 3rdparty haulers (does not include the day-to-day field ops such as feed deliveries to farms, fertilizer to field etc.)
  • Work closely with Division Managers on a regular basis.
  • Source 3rdparty trucks based on seasonal demands (owner/operator/contract haulers) as needed for the efficient delivery of Farmward Commodities.
  • Supervise transportation employees including training, compensation, performance, and discipline
  • Monitor, maintain and communicate freight rates for all commodities
  • Coordinate on-farm pick up of grain
  • Fleet management
  • Plan and schedule preventative maintenance
  • Determine and coordinate non-routine repairs
  • Analyze and recommend capital expenditures
  • Manage transport P&L – analyze and manage revenue and expenses
  • Assist with department budget process
  • Prepare and maintain projection of freight needs for all departments
  • Work closely with EHS for DOT and safety compliance
  • Know and follow all company safety policies/procedure.
  • Perform and direct work in a safe manner that observes traffic laws, OSHA, State, and Federal safety regulations
  • Represent yourself and Farmward professionally at all times in action and appearance.
  • Make decisions and follow instructions with little or no supervision
  • Perform other duties as requested by management

Licensing, Certification and Experience:

  • Prefer a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with required medical certification
  • Maintain acceptable driving record based on insurance guidelines
  • Well organized and able to multi-task
  • Computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and remain calm in fast-paced situations.
  • Ability to multi-task and solve problems quickly.
  • Solid knowledge of trucking regulations, laws, shipping and logistics.
  • Knowledge of ag and transportation business preferred

Working Environment: Will be subject to mostly environment-controlled office/building, however visits to locations may include exposure to weather/temperature extremes and other conditions associated with the cooperative business units

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, hear, and use hands. Drive to locations. Close, distance and peripheral vision. Ability to work long hours.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 per year
