- Pay – The starting hourly pay for this position starts at $32.27 per hour (step 1). Existing employees will receive increases as outlined by their bargaining agreement.

THE ROLE:
Employees in this classification perform advanced technical installation, construction, testing, maintenance, repair duties on traffic signal control devices and systems, and supervise crew members.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma/GED
- Five (5) or more years of experience in maintenance and repair of electrical/electronics, to include one (1) year journey-level experience and two (2) years traffic signal, roadway lighting, area lighting and/or sports lighting experience. OR
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Licenses and Certifications:
Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.
- Nevada Class C Driver's License.
- Journey-Level Electrician Certification at time of hire.
- Ability to obtain appropriate Nevada State Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) w/ Air Brake endorsement; Automatic Transmission restriction permissible within 12 months of hire.
- CPR and First Aid Certification within one (1) year of hire.
- IMSA Work Zone Safety within six (6) months of hire.
- IMSA Level I Traffic Signal Technician within six (6) months of hire.
- IMSA Level II Traffic Signal Technician within one (1) year of hire
- IMSA Roadway Lighting within six (6) months of hire.
- OSHA 30 card within sixty (60) days of hire.
- IMSA Fiber optic for ITS level II certification for installation, termination and design within one (1) year of hire.

Candidates for this position are subject to a Pre-employment screening. Pre-employment screening includes but is not limited to: Local & State Criminal History Check; Federal Criminal History Check via submission of fingerprints; Drug screening.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions, work near moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, loud noise, and outdoor weather conditions.
- Frequent exposure of work time to moderate hazards when climbing ladders or scaffolds or working on live electrical wires.
- Frequent exposure of work time to hazardous traffic conditions.
- May be required at times to work in an aerial truck at heights up to 85 feet.
- May be required to wear personal protective equipment.
- Regular and timely attendance is required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This lists includes the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive.
- Performs journey-level technical repair, construction and/or maintenance duties on traffic signal control devices, street lighting systems, parks electrical, auxiliary equipment, and fiber optic network.
- Reviews and prioritizes work orders, coordinates with outside agencies and assigns available resources to complete work assignments of varying nature and difficulty in the technical advancement, inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of traffic signal control devices and systems.
- Performs after hour response to emergencies related to job specification, on a rotating basis.
- Ensures duties are conducted in accordance with safety practices and protocols.
- Serves as a resource to others in troubleshooting, diagnosing, construction, and design, in order to maintain efficient, effective, and safe traffic flow, direction, and control.
- Diagnoses malfunctions, installs, maintains, constructs, and repairs traffic signal control devices, street lighting and parks electrical systems.
- Conducts both field and shop testing on complex solid state integrated circuits.
- Devises modifications and designs changes of controls and equipment as needed in order to integrate into existing systems.
- Designs, constructs, and implements technical improvements, maintains and repairs fiber optic systems, video surveillance, security systems, public address and 900 MHz point to point systems.
- Installs and reconstructs field wiring for street lights, traffic signals, school flashers, fiber optic systems, lighted signs and parks electrical devices.
- Programs and calibrates traffic controllers and school zone warning systems.
- Performs special events duties, such as holiday banners, Christmas lights, DUI checkpoints, etc.
- Drives City vehicles to work sites and transports materials and assistants as required; may work from lift trucks, ladders and other elevating devices.
- Maintains records of work performed and materials used.
- Promotes and supports the overall mission of the City by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
