We are looking for a qualified Assistant Teacher for the Preschool Classroom to prepare children to transition to the next class by helping form foundational learning skills. You will assist in teaching them important elements that they will encounter soon before they enter school life. You will work alongside lead teachers and assist with transitions, assist with snacks and meal times, interact, play and engage with the children, and support the teachers in any classroom activity.

An Assistant Teacher must have a great love and patience for children. Qualifications needed to teach them effectively include knowledge of best practices and preschool educational methods, the ability to engage them, and earn their trust and attention.

The goal is to contribute to the healthy mental and emotional development of the child so they can more easily acclimate in the next level of education.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the lead teacher in the implementation of curriculum and supervision
  • Help implement a careful and creative program suitable for children
  • Employ a variety of educational techniques (storytelling, educational play, media etc.) to teach children
  • Observe each child to help them improve their social and emotional competencies and build self-esteem
  • Encourage children to interact with each other and resolve occasional arguments
  • Guide children to develop their artistic and practical capabilities through a carefully constructed curriculum (identify shapes, numbers or colors, do crafts etc.)
  • Organize nap and snack hours and supervise children to ensure they are safe at all times
  • Communicate with parents regularly to understand the children’s background and psyche
  • Collaborate with other educators in the classroom and assist with any activities
  • Maintain a clean and tidy classroom consistent with health and safety standards
  • Employee must utilize KidKare & Procare daily

Requirements

  • Excellent understanding of the principles of child development and preschool educational methods
  • Familiarity with safety and sanitation guidelines for classrooms
  • Excellent communication and instructional skills
  • Ability to act as mediator between children
  • Cool-tempered, friendly and reliable
  • Balance between a creative mind and a practical acumen
  • Must have knowledge of Arizona Department of Health Services licensing regulations pertaining to childcare

Mandatory Credentials

  • Current State of Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Current Maricopa County Food Handlers Card
  • A negative TB test dated within the last year
  • Current CPR, AED and First Aid
  • High School Diploma

Other Qualifications

  • Comfortable working in a high energy environment with children who are sometimes rambunctious
  • Must be willing to commit to our training program which is 180 hours a year. This is to ensure career progression and increases self worth
  • Meet annual professional development requirements, per state regulations
  • Proficient in using Windows and Apple based computers and tablets

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $13.85 - $15.00 per hour

COVID-19 considerations:
To keep our staff safe, we recommend face coverings prior to entering the center. There is a small check-in procedure (temperature check, hand washing) before doing anything in the center. We clean and sanitize every hour to keep our center clean.

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)

Experience:

  • Early Childhood Education: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Childcare: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • Fingerprint Clearance Card (Preferred)
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (Preferred)
  • Food Handler Certification (Preferred)
  • Tuberculosis (TB) Test dated within a year (Preferred)
