This position is a critical component within our library team. The purpose of this position is to assist in essential library functions such as technical services and premier customer service. This is accomplished by processing and cataloging new material ensuring they are shelf-ready for community access. Maintaining accurate catalog records in the ILS software is important for functionality of the library. Other duties include Interlibrary Loans (ILL), answering phones, and helping at the circulation desk while first and foremost providing customer service to other City employees and citizens.

How You Add Value

  • Provides premier customer service to internal and external customers by responding to requests in a timely and professional manner. Maintaining the appearance of the Library, answers patron’s directional, procedural and informational inquiries and assist in the location of reference material and the use of the library equipment.
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining their assigned area.
  • Orders and returns McNaughton books, orders materials in assigned genres. Orders all material necessary for the protection and repair of materials in the collection.
  • Processes all interlibrary loan requests and creates necessary basic cataloging records.
  • Provides assistance at the circulation and reference desk.
  • Receives and processes new materials, including encoding.
  • Manages workflow for materials repair and/or replacement; assists with weeding and withdrawing of older and/or damaged material.
  • Performs original cataloging, downloads records from vendors, performs authority control, classifieds all new materials and makes updates to item records as needed.
  • Regular attendance required.

What You Bring to the Role

  • Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency. Some college level coursework preferred.
  • One year of clerical and customer service experience required, preferably in library environment.
