Do you have a passion for serving the community and are ready to put that passion to work? The City of Pomona is currently seeking four qualified applicants who desire to work on a part-time, temporary basis as a Technical Specialist I with the Neighborhood Services, Housing team.
Community Engagement (1 vacancy)
Program Outreach (3 vacancies)
**Hourly/part-time positions average 20 hours per week and less than 1,000 hours in a fiscal year. This is a temporary part-time position with an expected duration of one year.**
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- College education is preferred.
- One (1) year of related work experience interacting with the public.
- Must possess and maintain a valid California Class "C" driver's license.
Skill to: Follow-up on information requirements from property owners and tenants; operate modern office equipment and Microsoft software particularly Word, Excel and Access; operate a motor vehicle safely.
Ability to : Perform responsible administrative and technical support work involving the use of independent judgment and personal initiative. Work cooperatively with other departments, city staff, outside agencies. Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public. Compile and maintain complex and extensive records. Exercise good judgment, flexibility, creativity and sensitivity in responding to changing situations and needs. Foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Must be willing to work during weekends.

Conduct various presentations to government and private agencies. Present and solicit additional strategies to generate community involvement.

Organize and conduct regular coordination meetings of a Lead Free Homes LA – Pomona Partnership Network to improve coordination efforts and system for cross-referral.

Maintain and expand various partnerships aimed at broadening recruitment efforts and program delivery.

Update Lead Free Homes LA – Pomona Program Marketing Plan and enrollment strategy based on consultations/decisions/and network meetings.

Coordinate activities of outreach staff.

Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Recruit families in pre-1951, single family homes (1-4 units) with children under the age of 6 years to participate in Lead Free Homes LA - Pomona Program.
- Educate families by providing printed materials on the dangers of lead based paint hazards in the home as well as recommended safety measures for a "lead-safe" home.
- Conduct educational sessions with enrolled and approved families to have their children pre-screened and tested for BL levels.
- Organize and/or participate in community events to recruit and inform the community about the Program.
- Maintain and assist with expanding various Program partnerships.
- Maintain records/log of events and number of families reached and enrolled in the Program.
- Prepare 3-month calendar of activities/events to promote the Lead Free Homes LA - Pomona Program.
- Assist families with completing a Program application, along with supporting documentation.
- Package all enrollment materials received in an organized manner.
- Offer information to targeted families based on prepared materials and approved and concerned government entities.

Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment: Ability to work in a standard office environment; ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, climb, and lift up to 20 lbs.; exposure to heat, noise, outdoors, confining work space, and chemicals; ability to travel to different sites and locations. (This position will include frequent standing and brisk walking).
