Summary:



Under direction, the Systems Administrator will be responsible for implementing and monitoring network, and operating systems, including installing and maintaining all computer workstations and servers and supporting the LAN system. The Systems Administrator will oversee the day-to-day management of the existing systems infrastructure, provide technical support for the staff and end users (on-site and remote) and monitor the server environment. The System Administrator will evaluate vendor products in software and hardware equipment and recommend purchases consistent with short and long-term objectives. This position reports directly to the IT Manager and collaborates closely with IT team members and other departments.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Configures, installs, tests, troubleshoots, and maintains server hardware and software.
  • Provides technical support and training to staff and end users.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains computer software, hardware, and office equipment.
  • Implements backup and recovery procedures and maintains network security; backup servers and keeps logs of backup data.
  • Assists in monitoring and troubleshooting LAN and WAN system performance.
  • Ensures that existing infrastructure functions smoothly and offers users the highest level of service.
  • Monitors available space on network volumes and moves, delegates, or organizes accordingly to maintain adequate disk space for network operations
  • Designs, installs, manages, and maintains virtual server infrastructure to include VMware/Nutanix servers and SAN hardware and software.
  • Install, upgrade, and maintain Windows Network environment, including but not limited to active directory, DNS, Print, DHCP, and file servers.
  • Maintains appropriate and current licensing, system documentation, and support Agreements.
  • Develops, documents, publishes, and enforces systems architecture procedures and standards
  • Develops an ongoing maintenance schedule (e.g., backups, log rotation, checking system status for servers and workstations).
  • Restores file server, repairs the affected volumes, and any other symptoms or manifestation in the event of power failure or any other reason causing file server failure or error.
  • Stays abreast of technical trends, new technology, and computer virus news and updates. Update computers and virus definitions periodically.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and must participate in departmental cross-training, job-sharing, and job duty reorganization efforts as directed by Supervisor.

Education and Experience:


Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science or related field and four years of experience in the operation of midrange and personal computer equipment, network administration, and the application of software processes related to these platforms; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities and other competencies necessary for the position.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Proven experience overseeing the design, development, and implementation of server/software systems, applications, and related products.
  • Proven experience with systems planning, security principles, and general server/software management best practices.
  • Extensive knowledge of software protocols, virtualization, and Internet standards.
  • Extensive experience with core software applications.
  • Excellent hardware and software troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with the cloud and cloud technologies.
  • Working knowledge of network and PC operating systems, including Microsoft products.
  • Excellent understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Good project management skills.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct research into systems issues and products as required.
  • Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
  • Proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other City employees and the general public.

Special Requirements:


  • Possession of a valid State of Florida driver’s license.
  • Possession of MCSA, A+, Network+, Security+ certifications are preferred.
